31 December
Geelong Harness Racing Club
Geelong Harness Racing Club will join forces with major sponsor The Geelong News to present its fifth annual New Year’s Eve Spectacular at Beckley Park on Sunday, December 31. An 11-race program featuring the Geelong News Cup is scheduled to kick off around 6.00pm. In 2005, more than 2000 people attended the New Year’s Eve Spectacular which is Geelong’s only family-friendly end of year celebration.
The event was subsequently recognised at Harness Racing Victoria’s recent 2005/06 Country Club Awards with the Best On-Course Promotion trophy. This year, the crowd will be entertained by a live performance
from Creedence Clearwater Recycled. The Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band will play for two hours in the countdown to a huge fireworks display at midnight.
Children will enjoy unlimited free carnival rides throughout the night, including a chair-o-plane, cup and saucer jumping castle and bungy challenge. In addition, the on-track action will be complemented by the annual harness racing driver’s foot race where some of the State’s leading reinsmen and women will test their athletic ability in a dash up the home straight.
Admission is $25.00 for adults, $15.00 concession and $10.00 for children with youngsters under-four admitted free. Family passes for two adults and up to four children will be available at the gate for $60.00, or may be pre-purchased from Apco Easy Shops at a $10.00 saving.

IMO it looks like the Geelong club are working hard to get families involved in the harness racing

Agree Geelong are trying to make it a family atmosphere..

BUT - Dutchy.. take your missus to the races and it costs $50 just to walk in the gate.. I know one thing - my missus would much prefer being taken out for a nice dinner somewhere with the kids...

Lets be honest - who here has been to Geelong - I have and it's a hole!! there is no where to sit really (except on the small grass out the front) and the facilities are a country track - and we have to pay $25 to enter that crap.. promote it - charge $10 and you would have got 3 times the crowd and more turnover = more money for the club..
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

Crikeys DUTCHY your like a rottweiller that wont let go.

Firstly I was not aware it was promoted so well with so many attractions
and the club with great promoting is a winner and a great $$$$$$$$$ spinner.
Hats off to a great initiatative by the club.

That worked

BUT

The regular bread and butter punters would have been pissed off paying that
or having to stay home because of the exhorbitant entry fees.

MALS SUMMARY
------------------

Great short term $$$$$$$$ spinner only..... BUT will the SCDs return?
