end of the day it comes down to teh risk each bookie wants to take, sometimes that relates to the amount they can afford to lose also, the bigger operations like Sportsbet can probably afford to take more risks than the local bookies..

Mal/Centreman, Im just stating my opinion on how I believe they should run their business, but at the end of the day its their business and they can run it anyway they want and will....

my main beef is the convenience on betting online is not available with our local bookies, dont know what the scope is to improve that...

dutchy, that 3rd paragraph has nothing to do with the bookies not betting on-line, it is to do with legislation from the government because i believe that as soon as it is passed they will be able to operate on-line. i'd suggest curly's love child mal will be able to confirm this

Correct bayman,
Part of tab sale ment they are only ones who will be given approval to bet on line,
That why bookies in Melb, Syd (Eskander, Berhan, Global) have moved to Darwin. Believe Simon Beasley is soon to follow. tab won't let then have equal trading conditions.
Its only way they can bet 24/7 on the net.
Tab want full control, and don't want play on level playing field!!!

Any reason why the SA Tab won't bet on Sanfl footy???

fair enough, tell me do the bookies make more $ on fielding at the races or sports betting these days? suggests the margins are lower for sportsbetting....is the turnover at an AFL game quite reasonable?

DUTCHY
I dunno where the bookies are winning or losing BUT
I do know the SANFL is one of the hardest places to win off.
In all sincereness I have never EVER lost betting on the SANFL in a decade of betting any year.
The % is about 5-7% in favour of the SANFL bookies.
CLOWNTON and now GIFTBET are my sources of income
As I have said, COMPLETE PROFFESORS are almost always a lower price
with the winning SANFL teams each week.
GIFTBET love betting the best odds for the certs
They will learn the hard way
The DUTCHYS/PUNKS/MALS/MT79S/ECKYS will beat them in the long run
If we were big punters they would find a way to ban us[thats happened before]

MAL and Centreman your COMPLETELy unbiased comments have been duly noted. My query was only in reference to turnover and good will etc. If you're worried about getting stung early in the week, go up unders but at least put up something to look like you're interested.
- Also I stated on another post that I can understand a reluctance to go up early for the SANFL because of changes due to Crows and the Power but waiting til friday arvo for the AFL is a bit rich. Remember you only need 1 gift to go down every 2 or 3 weeks and the bookies will be in front[eg. West Coast v Bris.]. :partyman:

I believe that the risks associated with betting early in the week are very over-rated. If a bookie knows his stuff he will have a good idea anyway who may be injured/which AFL players may be available, and the market rarely changes much anyway from such knowledge. Keep in mind that the punters probably have no better idea of such things, so there really are not many more risks involved at all compared to only putting up a market on Fridays.

Cannot agree ECKY
You being in the glenelg set up would be privy to information
that the SANFL bookies would not
Before Fridays you would know which players are injured and unavailable
You would also know if the FLU has hit the club
You would also know which AFL listed players are available or not.
The Bookies are not privy to this information
I know I get some intelligence chatter from my spies on these matters

For example
GL V NW 2006 at the BAY last year
I knew that some NW players were rooted from the flu
Did the bookies ?
Thats the day GL were 15 goals to 0 in front just before half time

Leave the heriocs to CLOWNTONS/GIFTBET, let them get clobbered
Meanwhile the intelligent bookie looks at the sides Friday Mornings and
puts up his market
COMMON SENSE

The AFL open early because they have a network of people sifting this information
beause there are millions of dollars exchanged weekly
The SANFL has a hard core of punters [about 20/30 people in total] and there is
no justifiaction in providing an early market.

Dont get me wrong I love SANFL bookies that open early
BECAUSE THEY ARE MY MEAL TICKETS

i would suggest that CS wouldnt be getting much SANFL interest at the moment given that we have 3 other betting agencies to choose from, and at least one - sportsbet - allow punters to get on early in the week

Mal you asked for my prices after the glenelg v norwood game and i gave them to you, but do i have any privvy info about any of the teams in the SANFL?????? I know about as much info as thornton does......

CENTREMAN - TAB ON SANFL

Ive had this debate with them a few times. I rang up a few months back to enquire about it, got put through to QLD but the DH didnt answer the phone.

Ive been told that the market isnt big enough for it and theres no justification to have it going etc........all complete and utter BS, because we know how big those pools got in the footy four etc....and the treble on the SANFL

I told the SATAB, that the excuse the market isnt big enough is just a disgrace, i did refrain from getting abusive.........
I told the SATAB that the WA TAB, run the tip 8, tip 11, tip 12 which JJ knows all about $$$$$ plus they have margin betting on all games including the WAFL.

now the WA TAB is one state, UNITAB is allegedly QLD, NT, SA, so 3 states should be bigger then one!!!!! thats what i would have thought anyway....

UNITAB give the QLD punters there beloved rugby tip the winners, margins, and all that, so why cant we in SA have the FOOTY PUNT back.

Unitab just keep driving punters further away to other betting agencies who bend over backwards to get your business.....

Maybe we should start a petition to bring back FOOTY PUNT

at least they are getting good publicity and business out of it!!!!!

cant say the same for 2 of the other competitors, especially the so called professors who probably dont want to hold any $$$$$$ on the SANFL which is why they bet the unders
