CK thoughts on the leaders of the tournament of champions at end of round 1?
G'day fellow CK
Will be a bit of breeze around on day one, winds up to 33 km/h, so that changes the complexion of things slightly. It's a pretty strong field, as would be expected, but also a very small field, so not a lot of value to be located.
There are a couple of generally good starters in the field, players who tend to get away to good starts, but not sustain it over the journey. Jonathan Byrd at the $23 with the site sponsor fits the bill well here, a player usually around the mark in the early stages.
Webb Simpson, despite being short at the $9, had a breakout season in 2011 and is a real player to watch on the world tour now. Had a short break at the end of the year and should be refreshed, and had many great starts in the second half of 2011.
KJ Choi and Rory Sabbatini, $17 and $23 respectively can be very hard to follow at times, but also too good to leave out in early stages. If they get away to a good opening 6-7 holes, they usually hold that form in early rounds.
For a bit of value, lastly, try Bryce Molder at $34. Should be suited by the conditions overall, and needs to start 2012 solidly if he is to turn his potential into something bigger this year.
Hope this helps
