2 wins and 2 placings from 11 selections yesterday, all bet types in the red, heres todays pickings:

Stoneblack hard to beat at Mornington

MORNINGTON RACE SIX: 4 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

A 'slow' track that suits, ideal trip, good recent form, top rider, top trainer...The factors line up very nicely for (4) Stoneblack 3/1 in race 6, the Victoria Peninsula Cup 1600m at Mornington on Sunday.

The 5YO, trained by Robert Smerdon, ran 6th/11 in RB89 1600m at Caulfield on Oct 12 but most probably the firm ground was against him. His wet tracks form is attractive. Two runs back, on Slow, he ran 2nd/12 to Ginga Dude at Moonee Valley 1600m on Sep 30, btn just under a length, and four starts back, again on Slow, he ran 2nd/12 at Sandown-H 1800m in RB82. narrowly btn. He's had one start at Mornington and won, and he's a winner and 6-time placegetter over the 1600m trip. Chris Symons rides and he won on him at Mornington 2019m on Aug 3 (track Dead). The main threat today should come from (6) Another Prelate 5/2, a last start 2nd/10 Moonee Valley 1600m in RB78 on Oct 7. The 7YO, a winner on Slow and Heavy, scored over 1600m in RB72 at Sandown-L on Sep 14. Those formlines look sound.

MORNINGTON RACE SEVEN: 7 the eachway selection

We had a nice win from (7) Dame Claire 4/1 last Monday and I am keen to have another lash when she tackles race 7, an RB72 hdcp 2400m at Mornington.

The 4YO Danehill Dancer mare is a confirmed mile-and-a-half stayer, she handles the wet and she comes into the race fit and in-form. She relished the heavy conditions when scoring by 4 lens at Pakenham 2428m in RB62 on Oct 24. It was a performance that clearly signalled she's in peak condition. Pat Carey is backing her up in 6 days and that's a sign he reckons she's in the right nick to notch another victory. Today's field is a tougher than the one she disposed of at Pakenham but she does go down in weight from 3.5kgs over the Limit to a half-kilo over.
It's Molon Lave in one Fell swoop at Mornington
Sunday, October 30, 2011
Posted @ 8:05 am
MORNINGTON RACE FIVE: 16 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

There should be some eachway value about (16) Molon Lave 9/1 in race 5, a Country Showcase RB68 hdcp 1200m at Mornington on Sunday.

Trainer Peter Fell has a habit of popping up with longshot winners and Molon Lave added to his record when he won first-up at 50/1 three starts back at Mornington 1200m on May 22. The 4YO gelding sat 5th, a few spots off the fence, to the turn and then drew clear over the final 200m for a 2.8 lens win. He then ran 4th/14 Cranbourne 1200m in RB62 on June 12, btn 1.3 lens, and wound up the short campaign with a 4 lens 8th/13 Cranbourne 1400m in Cl 1 on June 26. He returns from a spell today and I fancy Peter Fell will have prepped him to ping. The expected Slow conditions will not be a concern (his dam is by Canny7 Lad).

Brighten up with Dark Angel at Muswellbrook
Monday, October 31, 2011
Posted @ 8:45 am
MUSWELLBROOK RACE SIX: 6 the eachway selection

Tipster: MARTIN DOWLING

Back from a break, (6) Dark Angel 7/2 looks to have the measure of her rivals in race 6, a Cl 1 hdcp 1000m at Muswellbrook on Monday.

The Nadeem 3YO filly, trained by Todd Howlett at Cessnock, comes in off a last start 4th/16 to Alcancia in the 2YO Inglis Classic 1300m at Scone on May 13. She was btn 2.3 lens. That followed her win at Gunnedah 2YO 1200m on May 8. Those are sound formlines for today's race.

PLEASE NOTE: Brian Blackwell's tips for the Melbourne Cup and other races will be available from 7pm Monday. We will also have the Cup selections of Martin Dowling and Alan Jacobs.

Mawari can mangle 'em at Hamilton
Monday, October 31, 2011
Posted @ 8:17 am
HAMILTON RACE FIVE: 9 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Down in weight, and fit after 2 runs, (9) Mawari 10/1 appeals as an eachway job for race 5, a Mdn Plate 1400m at Hamilton on Monday.

The Khyber Pass 3YO filly ( named after a character in the manga series Tenjho Tenge) failed last time out when 9th/12 Echuca 1400m 3YO Mdn on Oct 11 but that was a pretty smart field - the winner was Saint Etienne who went on to run a very close 3rd to the classy Galah at Flemington last Saturday. Mawari had to come from a wide gate (#11) and raced outside the leader into the straight before compounding to finish 7.3 lens off Saint Etienne. At her debut outing, on Sep 19, she fought on gamely for 1.3 lens 4th/11 to Heavenly Dreams at Mornington 1223m in RB58 class. That performance gives her the highest rating of any runner in today's field. With the 3kgs claim for Damien Thornton, Mawari gets in with 51.5kgs, a drop of 3.5 kgs on the weight she carried at Echuca and 3kgs down on the Mornington weight. She gets her chance from gate #3.

MELBOURNE CUP: The Moment looms for Dunaden and Godolphin
Monday, October 31, 2011
Posted @ 6:47 pm
FLEMINGTON RACE SEVEN: 3 and 15 bracket selections

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Several months ago I decided that the French stayer (3) Dunaden 8/1 could win the Melbourne Cup and I went on to hand out the tip for him in the August issue of Practical Punting when he was available at 100/1, so it's with some diffidence I tip him for the big race on Tuesday (race 7, Grp 1, 3200m) when he is down to much shorter odds, but my conviction that he can win is as resolute as ever. I am bracketing him with the Godolphin runner (15) Lost In The Moment 35/1 who, as you know, has been our long-range selection for the Cup (50/1 when we named him).

So it's these two horses on which my Cup hopes rest. Dunaden is a fine, strong stayer as he showed with his emphatic win in the Geelong Cup 2400m on Oct 19. He carried 58kgs in that race (5kgs over the Limit) and drops to 54.5kgs (3.5 kgs over the Limit) in the Cup. There are no concerns about him staying the two miles. In France, where staying ranks are very strong, he won a Grp 3 over 3082m at Longchamp on Apr 30 and was a nose 2nd there over 3100m at Grp 2 at his next start on May 22. His one failure in the last 10 starts was his 9th/13 in a wfa Grp 2 at Deauvilled on Aug 21 but don't get too dismayed - he raced 4 and 5 wide all the way and copped a check at the 200m when trying to go forward. He should have finished much closer. The winner was the UK stayer (2) Jukebox Jury 11/1. They met at level weights and JJ now has to 'give' Dunaden 2.5kgs. Dunaden is drawn OK and let's hope that his new rider Christophe Lemaire gives him a good passage. Lost In the Moment seems to be something of a forgotten raider but his form is sound. I am taking the base formline via his close and very unlucky 2nd in the 3200m Goodwood Cup (Grp 2) on July 28. Into the straight he was buried back on the inside and had to check off heels twice before being ripped out into the open to make his final run. He flew home and just failed to get his head in front. That performance had 'Melbourne Cup chance' written all over it. Godolphin have gone close before in the Cup and I fancy the stable has a great chance with Lost In The Moment and also with the other stable runner (16) Modun 25/1.

FLEMINGTON RACE THREE: 6 the eachway selection

If there's one thing we know for sure it's that (6) Adroitly 5/1 will 'stay' the trip OK in race 3, an RB95 hdcp 2800m at Flemington - and he's my eachway special.

The Octagonal 4YO, trained by Peter Snowden, travelled deep all the way and challenged strongly in the final 400m to finish 2nd/16 (0.8 len) to Galizani in the 2400m City Tatts (Listed) at Randwick on Oct 15. Three starts back he won over 2800m in BM75 at Canterbury on Sep 7, scoring by 7.5 lens. He's a smart stayer and Snowden should have him cherry ripe.

FLEMINGTON RACE TEN: 6 and 14 bracket eachway selections

Mark Kavanagh holds the key with (6) Bagman 7/2 and (14) Too Deadly 13/2 in race 10, an RB89 hdcp 1400m at Flemington.

Bagman was most unlucky last start when 6th/8 Morphettville 1200m in the wfa Durbridge. The 5Yo was btn 4.7 lens but he could not be tested in the final stages and just cruised to the line. He had won his previous 5 starts, the most recent at M'ville 1600m in RB86 on May 28, coming from last on the turn to score by almost 3 lens. He's a very smart customer as his record shows - 6 wins and 4 placings from 18 starts. Too Deadly has had 2 runs off a spell. He ran 2nd/14 Bendigo 1000m on Sep 11, then struck all sorts of strife when 5tgh/12 at Caulfield 1400m on Oct 8, btn 2.8 lens. He's ready to improve sharply.

Boom goes the winning spirit at Flemington
Monday, October 31, 2011
Posted @ 7:16 pm
FLEMINGTON RACE NINE: 20 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

All the way from Toowoomba for a first-up strike...That's how I see things for (20) Spirit of Boom 10/1 in race 9, the Security Sprint 1200m (Listed) at Flemington on Tuesday.

Tony Gollan's 4YO is a smart sprinter. He's had 17 starts for 4 wins and 5 plazcings, and his 1200m record is 2 wins and 2 2nds from 9 tries. He's having his first run since his 2nd/16 to Excellantes in a 3YO hdcp at Eagle Farm on June 25. He came from 13th on the turn with a strong finale. That followed his 5th/18 in the Daybreak Lover (Listed) 1400m at EFarm on June 4, btn just under a length. I think Gollan will have the Sequalo gelding tuned to the minute for this straight-track assignment.

FLEMINGTON RACE FOUR: 10 the eachway selection

Grahame Begg wouldn't bring (10) Cabernet 10/1 to Melbourne unless he was confident she could win a good race, so I think the 5YO mare is primed for race 4, the Herald Sun Stks (mares, Grp 3) 1400m at Flemington.

She had little luck in the straight at her first-up run in the Nivison (Listed) 1200m at Randwick on Oct 15. Each time Scott Seamer went for a gap it closed. Cabernet finished 4th/13, btn 2 lens by Balmont. It was her first start since Feb 19. Last time in, Cabernet won three times at 1400m, so she's at the perfect trip today. The one factor against her is the wide gate.

Get Lucky and push the Buttons in Kyneton Cup
Wednesday, November 2, 2011
Posted @ 8:19 am
KYNETON RACE SEVEN: 2 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

There's virtually nothing between the peak ratings of the first three horses in the handicap in race 7, the Kyneton Cup 2000m, at Kyneton on Wednesday, so I'm taking the base formline via the weights in selecting (2) Red Buttons 7/2 to win the race.

This 7YO went within a nose of scoring last start when 2nd to Montgomery over 2025m at Cranbourne on Oct 13. He conceded 3kgs to the winner. He's now having his fifth run off a spell, he's a 6-time winner over the trip, he's a winner at 2000m at the track, he's trained by Mick Kent, he'll be ridden by Brad Rawiller - and he's drawn well. Those are solid factors in his favor. The obvious dangers are (1) Hawks Bay 5/2 and (3) Lucky Eighty Eight 11/4. Hawks Bay, trained on the track, faces a daunting task with 60kgs from a wide gate though he has carried even bigger weights to victory, while Lucky Eight is down in class on his last three starts and should surely prove the main stumbling block to Red Buttons.

KYNETON RACE SIX: 2 the eachway selection

Coming back off a break since July 12, the locally trained (2) Gatecrusher 5/1 is very likely going to be tuned up for a bold effort in race 6, an RB68 Country Showcase hdcp 1850m at Kyneton.

The George Osborne trained Catbird 5YO has had 2 Victorian outings and won both - first-up on June 28 he scored over the Mornington 1527m trip in RB58 class and then easily won an RB62 over 2400m at Mornington on July 12, carrying 59kgs (Lt53). He's obviously been kept up to the mark in the 3 months or so since that Mornington run, otherwise Osborne would not be sending him out over 1850m first-up. The danger could come from the ex-NZer (4) Safari 10/1, who is now with Mick Kent. He's having his fourth Aussie outing and has been built up for today's distance with runs at 1212m, 1400m and 1500m. His best NZ 1200m rating is good and if he could run up to that peak he'd be right in this race.

Pleasure awaits from Hidden Woman at Grafton

GRAFTON RACE SIX: 10 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Brett Bellamy's mare (10) Hidden Woman 12/1 had little luck last start so I'm anticipating a form rebound from her in race 6, a Cl 3 1000m hdcp at Grafton on Wednesday.

Hidden Woman ran only 7th/12 in a Cl 2 1000m hdcp at Coffs Hbr on Oct 21 when first-up from a spell since mid-May. She had support in the betting at 15/4 but got held up for a run 300m out and from that point she went to the line more or less untested, finishing 3.3 lens from the winner. The 4YO's form last time in was good. She won a Mdn 1100m at Grafton on Apr 18 and followed up with a Cl 1 win there over the same trip on May 7. She's had 4 runs at Grafton for 2 wins and two 3rds. There's an apprentice claim today which gets her in with 52kgs - that's 2kgs under the Limit. Last time out she carried 4kgs over the Limit.

Face off time for Belgietto at Flemington
Thursday, November 3, 2011
Posted @ 8:52 am
FLEMINGTON RACE NINE: 3 and 13 the eachway selections

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Last race desperation? Well, maybe! If it is then I'll be banking on (3) Belgietto 4/1 to regain his best form, and for (13) Face Off 7/2 to finally secure some luck in the running in race 9, an Open hdcp 1600m at Flemington on Thursday.

Belgietto let us down in the Sale Cup when the best he could do was 6th/14 to Pinnacles, btn 3 lens. He was right up on the pace all the way and I have my doubts that this is the way to ride him. I much prefer him to be ridden back and then brought into the picture with a late finale. Damien Oliver is aboard so we should get a good ride. Face Off is up in class after his most unlucky 4th/14 Geelong 1500m in RB78 on Oct 19. he was blocked in on the inside from the 200m mark and went to the line untested a length from the winner Orbital Motion. He gets his chance today.

Let's Summarise the situation...It's no Dead End
Thursday, November 3, 2011
Posted @ 8:33 am
FLEMINGTON RACE ONE: 3 and 6 bracket selections

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Outside the Melbourne Cup, it was difficult to find a value-priced winner at Flemington on Tuesday (though some selections were just outside the placings), so I'm hoping I can get a little closer on Thursday, and get away to a good start via (3) Summarise 33/1 and (6) Dead End 13/4 as a bracket pairing in race 1, the La Vie En Rose Vase 1800m (RB89) hdcp.

Dead End is the up-and-coming galloper in the race. Although a 5YO, he's had only 6 starts for 2 wins and one 2nd, though he might well have won last start had he been able to secure a clear run in the final stages of an RB78 hdcp at Geelong 1500m on Oct 19. He was btn 1.4 lens by (9) Orbital Motion 13/1, to whom he conceded 2kgs (today they meet at level wgts). Dead End should relish the rise in distance. He's up in class but drops 3kgs and he's got the very much in-form Damien Oliver aboard. Summnarise caught my eye with a bold finale from well back on the turn for 6th/14 in an RB89 at Seymour 1300m on Oct 16. That was the 5YO's first start since Aug 10 and the distance was much too short. He'll be better suited over today's extra 500m. I expect him to drift right back early and stay there until inside the 600m - from which point he may be able to produce a strong finishing run. If you're looking to go wide in the exotics, then Orbital Motion has to be considered. He's improved sharply under the care of Mark Kavanagh.

FLEMINGTON RACE EIGHT: 8 the eachway selection

Fresh from some good efforts in Queensland, (8) Falco Star 20/1 is likely to be prepped to ping in race 8, the Swisse Vitamin Stks 1000m at Flemington.

The Falvelon 7YO, trained by Robert Smerdon, hasn't started since Aug 17 when he ran 7th/11 Eagle Farm 1300m (Quality) behind Silvern, btn 2.3 lens. Three starts back, he was 2nd/13 in the Ramornie (Listed) 1200m at Grafton, btn a length by Jerezana. The run I am using as the base formline is his 4th/14 (2.8 lens) to Temple of Boom in an 1100m dash at Flemington on Nov 4 last year. In that race he was midfield settling and produced a strong finale. Today he has gate #3 and Michael Rodd is aboard - surely a sign of serious stable intent? Falco Star has a good first-up record (9 tries for 2 wins and 3 placings), and he's won 6 of his 25 starts at 1000m (plis 6 placings).

Play along with Our Recital at Sale
Friday, November 4, 2011
Posted @ 7:52 am
SALE RACE TWO: 10 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

A lift in distance by 200m should give at least a KO chance to (10) Our Recital 33/1 in race 2, a 3YO Mdn Plate 1400m at Sale on Friday.

Pat Carey's Oratorio filly debuted on Oct 23, finishing 7.5 lens 7th/11 Sale 1300m 3YO Mdn. It was a better run than it looks on paper. Our Recital was out the back settling down from a wide gate (#10) and stayed there to the turn - but from that point she went to the line nicely without being knocked around. The racing experience will be to her benefit and the extra journey should be what she needs. The dangers look like being (3) GranTaxi Joe's meter ticks along for a win at Sale
Friday, November 4, 2011
Posted @ 8:11 am
SALE RACE SEVEN: 3 the eachway selection

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Jim Conlan's 4YO (3) Taxi Joe 5/2 won so convincingly at Cranbourne 2025m last start that it's hard to go past him as the top selection for race 7, an RB68 hdcp 2200m at Sale on Friday.

The Zabeel gelding was a long last at the 800m but circled the field on the turn and swept away to score by 2 lens in an RB62 hdcp 2025m on Oct 13. That was his second run this campaign. First-up, he ran 2nd/10 Echuca 1600m in Cl 1 behind the useful Con Act, conceding that horse 2kgs. The danger should be (5) Island Home 4/1, who was btn 3.7 lens into 5th/14 behind Taxi Joe at Cranbourne and now has to meet him on the same weight terms. Island Home went on to score a gritty win over 2200m at Sale RB62 on Oct 23, so the formline has held up well.

SALE RACE EIGHT: 3 the eachway selection

Mike Moroney is likely to have (3) Oneman Wolfpack 4/1 ready for a winning return off a spell kin race 8, an RB62 hdcp 1200m at Sale.

This progressive Iglesia 4YO hasn't started since his bold 7th/17 from a wide gate (#17) in a 3YO RB82 over 2000m at Flemington on June 11. He was btn only 2.5 lens by Midnight Martini. Three starts back, he won a Mdn 1600m at Bendigo on May 6, beating Rankin by 2.3 lens. First-up last time in, on Mar 27, he ran a close 2nd/11 Cranbourne 1300m Mdn. He's drawn well in gate #2, Lisa Cropp rides - key factors.

FLEMINGTON RACE SIX: 8 and 9 bracket eachway selections

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

Keep the faith...It often pays off in racing, and hits you in the guts when you don't keep it (!), but I am studiously applying the theory with (8) Secret Admirer 11/2 and (9) Woorim 14/1 in race 6, the Grp 1 Emirates Stakes 1600m at Flemington on Saturday.

I foolishly went against Secret Admirer in the Epsom 1600m (Grp 1) and paid the price, though I had another go with her in the Cox Plate and was satisfied with her bold effort to run 5th/14 behind Pinker Pinker. The 4YO mare is switched back to the mile today but I suggest we should trust the cluey Grahame Begg to have her spot-on for the assignment. Woorim has been on and off all spring, and he was certainly 'on' last start when he zoomed home in the Grp 3 1400m at Flemington on Oct 29. He'll be good enough to give this race a real shake.

FLEMINGTON RACE THREE: 16 the eachway selection

Lifted in distance off a first-up run at 1400m, (16) The Chevron 13/2 gets his chance to break through in race 3, an RB95 hdcp 2000m at Flemington.

The Savabeel 4YO found the trip too short when 6th/13 Geelong 1400m in RB68 on Oct 19. That was his first start since June 11 and his failure in the 2400m Brisbane Cup, btn 9 lens by Tullamore. The Chevron is certainly rising in class on his latest outing but he drops back 6kgs which puts him on the Limit 53kgs. I think he's an up-and-coming type who will appreciate the open spaces at Flemington, plus, of course, he gets the 2000m trip. The last time he went over 2000m was at Flemington on May 7. He finished 5th/18 behind the useful Noble Park, btn 3.4 lens.

FLEMINGTON RACE NINE: 2 and 12 bracket eachway selections

Tipster: BRIAN BLACKWELL

The final race of the Flemington spring carnival on Saturday and it may well spring a big surprise (or two), especially if my theories come to fruition via (2) Zedi Knight 30/1 and (12) Bondarchuk 14/1 in race 9, an Open hdcp 1400m.

Both ran without luck at their latest starts. Brendan McCarthy's 7YO Zedi Knight wass bottled up in restricted room from the 500m to the line and simply could not be ridden out when 15th/20 over the Flemington 1200m on Nov 1. I suggest we ignore that defeat and concentrate on some of his better performances, including his 4th at Listed level in the Testa Rossa 1200m at Caulfield on Sep 24. Hed was only 2.4 lens behind Amaethon in that race. He has the inside gate and Danny Nikolic, in great touch, is aboard. Bondarchuk, from the John Sadler stable, was held up for clear running in the straight when 6th/14 at Geelong 1200m on Oct 19. He's got a good draw and bustling Craig Newitt is aboard.

FLEMINGTON RACE SEVEN: 5 and 8 bracket eachway selections

Guy Walter's mare (5) Skyerush 5/2 is no outsider but coupled with (8) Dance With Her 30/1 she might be part of a sound value bracket in race 7, the Matriarch Stakes (mares, Grp 2) 2000m at Flemington.

Skyerush, to be ridden by Hugh Bowman, had no luck last start. She finished 4th/15 in the Grp 1 Myer Classic 1600m at Flemington on Oct 29 behind Hurtle Myrtle and might well have been closer than 4.2 lens from the winner had she secured a clearer passage from the 600m to the early part of the straight. She'll have no problems with today's rise in distance (she's a winner up to 2400m, and over 2000m). Dance With Her represents wildcard prospects. She was 5th over the Moonee Valley 2040m on Oct 7 and went to the line untested. She relishes today's distance, she's got the inside draw and Ben Melham rides.

well i have lost interest, i will be cancelling the subscription and asking for my refund during the week.

friday 4/11 was the best day during my 3 week trial as far as winners go, with 5 from 6 selections however the average price was 15/10 or 2.50 for the younger ones, here is a break down:

129 selections for 37 wins, strike rate 28.6% which overall isnt that bad, however the profit was only marginal - based on $1 bets the return was $136.20 which was a 105.58% return on investment. the average price for a winner was $3.68 with the best priced one being $9.50 on a pommy winner backed on centrebet - still dont know what was going on there as tatts, sportsbet and sportingbet paid around $3 from memory, the next best was dunaden last tuesday.

Without looking too closely at it i found that saturday seemed to be the worst day, maybe being carnival time made it harder to find winners.
looking back at the 3 saturdays i have kept records, not including yesterday, the strike rate was 4 wins from 25 selections.

that means that all other days selections returned 33 winners from 104 bets at 32%

none of their "longshot" selections even got close yet they brag about it being legendary, i must have come in at the wrong time.

i still have a week to cancel the subscription and would be willing to share it if anyone was interested, the cost to me was $220 if anyone is interested pm me, the more the merrier you know :D
