Probably a silly question but its something Ive always wondered.
In the greyhounds, what is the significance of the name Bale? There seem to be so many dogs with Bale in their name. Are there any other common ones?

2 possible origins. The first might be the name of a successful sire (or less usually a dam) who is the father as the trainers/owners like to cash in on that success by making future buyers of pups more aware of the lineage. The second is it was possibly a name of a successful kennel mate, and the trainer didn't have much imagination. Other than the Bales there were a stack of Big Bad XXXX like Big Bad Adam etc. My grandparents themselves recycled the name Peerless XXXX (they live on Peerless road) and Bubbly XXXX (as the dam they owned was named Bubbly). can't think of many more but it's common in the dog industry.

I reckon the BALE name came from the prolific Interstate owner trainer family the Wheeler clan
They named a swag of dogs BALE
The Wheelers send dogs to a few trainers here in SA on a commission basis.

A few months ago I called Bale dogs as "Wheeler" Dealer dogs in some posts
Lisa Rasmussen gets a few Bale dogs over
She has a pup called WEALER DEALER running in SA [had 4 runs now]
This dog is appropriately named as a compliment to her supplier ????

Yes, it's either Paul's mother or grandmother's maiden name

I think NZ has an equivalent, with all the "Thrilling" dogs either being owned by the same person, or trained by the same person.
