Champion speedster SLATER'S racetrack tsunami has abated, albeit temporarily.

SLATER, named after eight-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater, sustained tendon and ligament damage to his right hock in a race at Warragul on September 25. The injury precipitated his withdrawal four days later from the Group 1 Paws of Thunder series at Wentworth Park in Sydney.

A subsequent warts-and-all review on SLATER included a comprehensive blood profile, which detected a viral infection. Veterinary opinion is that he had possibly been carrying the virus since returning from a Queensland campaign in July.

But SLATER could soon be back on the wave of success, as trainer Darren Murray said " everything is now looking good
