Flashing Red won the Cup coming off 15m.
My question is - Do we overrate the Kiwis as Flashing Red wouldnt be in Australias best 6 horses yet its just won the NZ Cup for the 2nd time ?

By the way did anyone catch the first 4 divies [approx]
Supertab- $10,157
NSW -$9690
Unitab- $1303 [jackpot]

No he has never been Grand Circuit champ.
2007 -Blacks A Fake [I think]
2006- Be Good Johnny
2005- Elsu
2004- The Falcon Strike
2003- Double Identity and Young Rufus tied.

My point being that to win as a 10yo coming off 15m is a huge effort but over the last season or so he has struggled in our big races because of the work or tasks hes been set.

Winner
2006/2007 Pacers Australasian Grand Circuit

FLASHING RED
Won last years grand circuit.
Beat Blacks a Fake by 2 points

he's like String lika Bee getting better with age. He was first horse to win kilmore cup off 30mts or more since popular alm.

Thanks Centreman as I didnt have the latest Grand Circuit champ result and was guessing with Blacks A Fake.
Mind you I've got no doubt who the better horse is.

G,

I am of the opinion that Tim Butt if not the best, up there with the top trainers in Australasia!!! Red's form was ordinary leading into the race but he had him spot on!!! But i do believe the Kiwi horse at the moment are not strong staying types, so i do agree with your statement a little. The NZ horse i have noticed are bred for speed rather than stamina!!!! Run that race over 2400 Monkey King would handle Red i think quite easily. but run a solid two mile & it takes an out & out stayer to triumph, an attribute in which the King just lacks a little. Next year maybe!!!

with no or at least very little racing in qld & nsw, i'd suggest that he is in the top 6 horses around atm & today proved he can still match it

I would definately have Blacks A Fake, Be Good Johnny, Sting Like A Bee and Safari ahead of him and then I think hes in the next bracket with Penny Vee Jay, Rebah Rajah, Robin Hood etc.
Dont get me wrong, I think its just his lack of gatespeed that then means he has to work so hard in his races and there arent many 2 mile stands around to suit him.

Not only that... having watched the replay last night - how can you not rate him in the top 6 horses in Australia....
He was the Grand Circuit champion last year (which in theory makes him the best).....
Was contrversially scratched from the interdom when a saline drench caused his TCO2 level to go too high in one swab only...
Last season he sat outside Blacks a Fake in the Vic Cup all the way and got beaten a head in sub 1:59.... Be Good Johnny couldn't do that...
Was in the death seat during the Hunter Cup going 2:00 and was the only horse in the front half of the field to finish in the first 5.. let alone finishing 3rd...

G - If You are saying he's not in the top 6 based on this seasons form, then you can't include Blacks a Fake / Be Good Johnny / Safari in the top 6 because they haven't been racing....
If you are saying he's not in the top 6 on last seasons form, then I would disagree 100% based on his Vic Cup / Hunter Cup runs + NZ Cup win....

Hang on a sec SCD SALINE DRENCH????? You got the drench part right thats about it for those blokes who dont know Stuey he cant let one go around without something in it, it seemed amazing that all the starts FR had for him and all the 'SALINE' drenches the horse had yet during an Interdom series he blames a high BICARB on a saline...........BULLS__T
BUT do agree the horse is in the top 6 going around that run on tuesday showed the horse doesnt race on just chaff and oats!!!!!!
