I'm not really one for betting on the tennis, especially since it is dominated by just a few players.

However, I just took a gander at Sportsbet and they have Spain's David Ferrer at $201 to win. Yet he is seeded number 4 and made the semis last year. I don't know if he has a protected ranking but he might be worth some loose change folks.

David Ferrer is in the same boat as Davydenko. Both are ranked in single figures, base their game around solid ground strokes, steady serves but more importantly, being fitter than 95% of there opponents.
Their rankings are helped by playing plenty of tournaments as their fitness helps keep injuries at a minimum BUT, they both lack a BIG SHOT to kill off the likes of Nadal, Federer and Djokovic to win a Grand Slam event.

A long way to go yet, but Round 1 saw Ferrer def Martin Vassallo (Arg) 7-6 6-2 6-2 in 138 minutes. Next game is vs a qualifier - Andreas Beck (Ger), ranked 125.

Ferrer def Beck in 3 hrs, 4-6 7-5 6-3 7-6 (7-5).

Next opponent in Rd 3 is K Nishikori (Japan), ranked 90th.

I found out Ferrer beat Nadal in making the semis of the US Open in 2007. On the negative side, he had won only one match on the hardcourt circuit this season prior to the US Open!

Still hanging in there....
