on the majority i think most people would agree that bookies are soft.
Had a Brief word to Greg McAtee about wednesday mornings at Angle Park and he said he had work commitments but ' wouldnt bother because only 3 people go'. well how about putting up decent prices, 'oh no cant do that'. VG does the markets for Damarrell and for McAtee as well.
I mean if you are confident that dogs that are going to be well supported cant win, put up the odds to let people get on.
People not going to the track, apparently strathalbyn charge $4.50 to get in for there dog meetings, never mind the fuel you spend to get there.
why pay ? mt 79

The Bookies fate was sealed with the introduction of- the tote, TAB, TAB's in pubs (feel free to add more). The only bets I get to put on with a Bookie is Thornton/Seal. Believe me, if the TAB offered exactly the same services that these guys offer, I'd be betting with the TAB (ie betting on SANFL, 1-39 etc). And who wouldn't? It's not a bad drive for me (from Richmond), but there's a TAB & the end of my street!

I guess its ok for Dammerell to roll up monday and
thursday nights at Angle Park and fill up his pockets,
but when he has to roll up on wenesdays and make a
loss ...........
Like all businesses you must absorb some losses for the
overall standing.
Overall going to 3 meetings over the year he must surely
make a profit.
The club has been hijacked and BADLY let down.

well i think its a disgrace really, i mean if he's happy to be there monday and thursday and make money surely he can be there wednesday mornings.
I mean he even operates at Gawler on tuesdays and you cant tell me that there are many more professional dog punters then there are on wednesday mornings.
if he put up proper and reasonable prices then we wouldnt be complaining.
id love to get a tip at something that was just over the line at juicy odds and hammer it with both thornton and dammerrell, especially a dog on the last wednesday they operate to really shove it up them. I mean VG is a punter surely he can see what we are on about and why punters will bet on the tote when 7 of the 8 runners are 'overs' on the tote.

VG is a nice bloke.
Nice blokes do what their bosses tell them to do.

i agree with that, but if he isnt telling his boss that he isnt getting business because of the prices on offer then his boss is well............. the words are unprintable!!!!!!!!!!!

I have confirmation now thet Peter Dammerell will finish
at Angle Park dogs on wednesdays his last meeting will
be on26/04/06.
Now that i am aware of all the facts i can sympathise with
his decision to vacate.
The turnover is poor compared to other minor dog meetings.
I was under the impression that he could break even at worst
but his expenses to field on wednedays make it nearly
impossible to make any profit.
Wednesday is a traditional horse racing day and quite a few dog
punters end up going to the races that day.
