Time to bring back the Timing Lights

Postby RichoRichoMan » Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:47 pm

What an absolute joke racing has become at the trots.
Friday night we see a first half in 67 and the leader failed to weigh in
Today Whisky spring ran first half 68 and beaten 30 metres and later on Manikingcify ran first half in 67/68
Fines must be brought back in to get respectable run races, regardless if the horses are dogs or not.

i can see both points of view but if any driver that is sitting back in the field in a very slowly run race showed any initiative he/she would go forward & put it into the race, i recall 'fragments' at 1/5 getting beaten by 'got me bluffed' because of a farcical speed & the only driver that showed initative was peter thomas who whipped it around to the front & won the race, rrr, i say if the drivers are stupid enough to sit back in this type of race then they don't deserve to win anyway
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Most of the drivers out there dont no how quick they are going unless they have BIG BEN rapped around there necks. So it is a bit harshed fineing them.If you fine Dean Giraldi $200 for going to slow thats problely half off his wining cheque.

Totally agree with RichoRichoMan. Adelaide is the only place in Australia where you can get away with running slow first halves. As for you Bayman, not all horses can be driven like you suggest, whip round them early and put it in the race. Fev 25, you say most drivers don't know how fast they're going out there unless they have BIG BEN rapped round their necks. Bring in fines and they'll learn!

You idiot's , Genius Gavin LANG drove a winner at moonee valley for us one night not that long ago and got fined for going too slow, but WHO CARES, WE GOT PAID AND SO DID HE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! time's mean nothing.

they should fine the spastic's back in the field for letting the leaders get away with murder........... what happens then?

Zahov, are you a Hillcrest escapee? Why is it then that every state, exept Adelaide, have minimum first halves? If times mean nothing WHY have Stewards done something to stop people from running such slow first halves in other states? Adelaide is a joke. You call Gavin Lang a Genius for going slow and winning. What if he got beat? They sould be fining the "spastic's" out in front who can't rate!

A Most horses cant go any quicker at globe.B The stewards here dont no how quick they are going and struggle to make a decision.C Normal if Gav. goes to slow he rarely gets beat Iron stien.

Zahov is too stupid to understand and the stewards are just as stupid for letting this go on! Something needs to be done about this. Adelaide is a joke. This is something that can be fixed. As RichoRichoMan said, these "coco-nuts" wouldn't do this if they knew there was a fine at the end of it.

i agree with both points here.

drivers should be able to go slow if they want as this is meant to greatly enhance there chance of winning. and if no1 want to come around to challenge then too bad.
but then again drivers shouldnt be able to go exesivly slow like a 68 half, wich we seen the other day.

so i beleive there should be some sort of fine if drivers go toooo slow. but say they only fine them if they go slower than say a 65 half.

Crazy69 has the right idea. We're not asking drivers to go out there and run first halves in 62 or anything like that. Punters DON'T want to see horses out in front WALKING and then getting beat! A 65 first half is ok, and if you say "but my horse can't run that" then it SHOULDN'T be there!!!!! Running a 68 first half is ridiculous and it looks BAD!

punk, what they are talking about (as i understand it) is that some years ago (anyone know what the years it operated in ?) there was a rule brought in so that the leader couldn't/wasn't allowed to run 'too slow' or the driver would cop a fine, the timing lights would be 'lit up' when the 33 seconds (1st quarter of the last mile or if you like the first 400 metres of that 800 metres first half) was up

the rule as i understood it to be was that the first half of the last mile (800 metres) was to be no slower than 66 seconds or the driver (of the leader) copped a fine

i hope this helps punk

I just checked last nights results and please someone tell me that there was a misprint in the last race!!
70.9 first half for 1800m on a Metropolitan track???
Surley enough is enough and time for the stewards to get off their lazy arse for once and get some sanity back into the races,
or dont bother winging about why SA harness is in a shocking state! cause they are contributing to its demise.

first quarter 35.1, second quarter 35.8 and teh leader won so job done well driven

what difference does it make how fast the leader is going- there are 9 drivers in each race they all have the opportunity to do something about it- if drivers want to sit at the back of the field when the pace is that slow its their fault no-one elses.

if npo drivers are going to put any pressure on why should the leader be forced to put some artificial pressure into the race and give those horses/drivers behind that arent willing to put any pressure on themselves a chance to run the leader down

What did you want B.Ewen to do he went to the front went 70.9 first half and fell in.If he went quicker he gets beat.So if they let them get away with it GOODLUCK TO THEM.

Ever heard of the 'Hare and the Tortoise race' ?
Slow and steady WINS the race.
Agree with some of the others that if the other Drivers in the race are that Dumb to sit back and do nothing then so be it. Going slow in front doesn't make it any worse a spectacle. Gloucester Park is a prime example in that it doesn't matter wether they go Slow or Fast in Front there, its usually just a procession. It was suggested on 5rph this morning that 1 prominent punter had done some research since 7 across the front was introduced and found that, that had contributed to Slower times as it was easier for drivers to slot in for a trail easier with only 2 on the 2nd row and therefore less drivers were attacking for the front thus slower times.
Personally i think that the whingers about the slow 1st halves are the punters that are losing on the punt and just looking for excuses.
