Exacta v Quinella payouts

Postby Dissident » Mon Apr 24, 2006 12:33 pm

Ok, so I'm confused.

On a race at Globe Derby Saturday night, I had money on an exacta - and it won.

Thing is, the exacta paid $3.80 or something - but the quinella paid $4.20 (or something similar).

Can someone explain to me how you can get MORE by betting the first two horses no NO order rather than in order ?!?! I'm confused!

it happens quite a bit, esp when an odds onie wins because everyone launches into the exacta and leaves the quinella alone. Also Exacta pools you will notice are much smaller than quinella's therefore if a large exacta bet wins it can narrow the divvie..i dont touch exacta's much - safer with quinellas

DISSIDENT RE: QUINELLAS + EXACTAS

You have every right to query that exacta paying
less then the quinella.

I reckon you are referring to race 10 GDP saturday night.

numbers were 7-1-3

quin paid $3-90 exacta paid $3-30

This is what happens with say a pool of say $1000 invested
on the quins and exactas

The TAB takes out approx 20% or thereabouts of the pool
The 1000 less 20% = $800 left for dividends

if 10 people get the quin it pays $800 divided by 10 = $80-00

if 50 people it pays $16-00
if100 pays $ 8-00
if 200 pays $4-00 etc etc.

So the formula is the pool less 20% divided by winning units.

So that exacta that paid shit was as a result of too many people
loading up on that combination.
The losing combinations would have most definitely paid better.

About 95 % of the time the exacta will pay better than quinellas
Refer to gdp race 6 when i tipped numbers 1-2-7 boxed in qu/exactas
The quin paid $11-30 the exacta paid $30-90.

Hope it is clearer for you know dissident.

Dutchy was spot on saying that exacta pools are smaller
than the quinella pools.

PS dissident your mate who got that $97 trifecta was smarter
than me i took one with nicky anvil to win but did not have
the second placegetter and missed out.

Cheers for that MAL, makes sense. I didn't realise it was like that.

Yeah my mate hasn't really bet before, it was just looking at the five chosen by bayman and choosing three of them!
I missed out by one.

DISSIDENT

Just goes to show you ALWAYS go by BAYMANS
tips first and then my late 'mal' as the 2nd opinion.
Thats why I missed and your mate got the Trifecta.

Got some late 'mal' posted under the
ANGEL PARK MAL post put in by MT79
for some exotics mail for tonights dogs 23/04/06.

Always remember the late 'mal' is a guide , there are
small pools in exotics so dont fire up on them too much on them.

good luck.

hey fellas, how bad are the 'any 2' pools? why do they persist with that bet? If you have a look on a Tuesday night for example, Maitland race 9 the pool was $51 RAce 10 $62 Launceston R9 $52 ect.... this seems a joke to me? If you had boxed 5 in an any 2 for $5 it would cost you $50 and you would have put in half the pool... WTF.... they should offer the any 2 on a Saturday only (if at all - it is a joke). What are your thoughts?

DICKIEBIRD

any 2's i dont take them myself and you mentioned the small pools that were about, and that if you boxed 5 for $5 it would cost you $50, well you wouldnt do that when the pool is so small.

i know someone that takes them on the dogs and its not just you MAL but i cant see how you can get rewarded at the dogs with any 2's. id rather take the exacta and quinellas.

Any twos are a complete disaster and wont be around long... I mean TAB radio dont even announce the any 2 dividend when they declare the rest of the divies. Scrap it!!!!!

I think that UNITAB introduced the ANY2 bet type before supertab came up with Duets, exactly the same bet. There is about to be a change at the top in Supertab and the incoming boss has said that Duets and im not sure what the other is are complete disasters!!!!!!!

I think UNITAB should scrap the ANY2 bet type as there very rarely seems to be value you do get the odd occassion where it can pay more then the quinella and exacta and i do mean rare.

I want jackpots back!!! i have a WA account and they have there own double, quinella, exacta pools and they all jackpot.

we got screwed when QLD took over we lost our footypunt, some of those pools got quite big, I realise we will never get it back, but the WA tote run a tip 11 and 12 which is tip 12 all AFL and WAFL games and the tip 11 is just all other games other then the friday night AFL game and you just need to tip winners.
they also have a soccer pools, and they get quite good but are hard to get as the three results in soccer can come in where in footy you rarely see the draw.

QLD can keep there rugby but what about our footy!!!!!!

Another thing that bothers me that would increase there turnover which is what UNITAB care about is that we cant access the double and treble approximates in agencies in the form of a hard copy, sure you get them over the radio but it isnt hard to get lost when they are doing both doubles and trebles and rushing through them. they are in the system you can access them on track so why not in agencies. this would increase turn over as people who were alive going for a big result may save on any dangers they dont have, personally i dont save but no many who do but dont and cant because they dont know the approximates!!!!!!!!!!
