it would have been entered (nominated/accepted) before christmas this time but even so if you nominate your dog/horse (4 or 5 days in advace), i don't think (i'm no vet) you'd know until it has actually happened, there is an old saying that you don't back mares on hot days as they could end up with a 'seasonal complaint'

having said that i do know that there is a 'pill' for the dogs as i've seen a trainer give a bitch a pill & i asked what was going on & that was the answer
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

You normally nominate upto a week in advance and over Xmas the nominations are even more skewiff.

The bitches have been on hormones for years and plenty of brands of hormones, now we are forced to only use a few brands and several bitches go sour on them form wise and quite a few now race without them in the system which means they can come on season at any time.

One day, with our bitch Bachelorette, we were getting ready for one last dash at Wenty Pk. When we left to race at Goulburn in the morning she was fine, we got home hours later and she was bleeding. She came on season that quick.

When a bitch comes on season, this means that if the people wanted to breed with her, then this period over the next fortnight would be when she gets inseminated to a sire.

This can mean a short spell if they dont want to breed as 9 out of 10 bitches go sour when they still show signs of having milk in their titties.
