AFL Round 4

NORTH Melbourne and Collingwood are friendless in betting this week in the lead-up to crucial games.

Both clubs find themselves in danger of going 1-3 after four rounds as St Kilda, Western Bulldogs and Geelong potentially skip three games clear.

Sportsbet in Darwin took a $20,000 bet on the Brisbane Lions yesterday at $1.63 to defeat the Magpies tonight, while North has drifted from the opening TAB Sportsbet price of $1.75 to share favouritism with the Bombers at $1.90.

"The punters want the Bombers and Brisbane, although there are still those who like to beat a different drum. How else would you explain $770 on the Dockers (to defeat the Saints at Docklands)?" TAB Sportsbet's Gary Davies said.

"We also took a multi-bet of $11,000 at $10.36 about six teams winning: Brisbane, Hawthorn, Carlton, Geelong, North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs."

Sportsbet in Darwin took a bet of $10,000 on St Kilda at $1.10, which Phil Hannah described as "better than bank interest".

The money for Brisbane was consistent.

"Punters only want the Lions and we can't write a ticket about Collingwood," Sportingbet Australia's Michael Sullivan said.

"Punters are also backing Essendon to down the Kangaroos after the Bombers surprised many with their win over Carlton last weekend.

"Punters who abandoned the Bombers in the past couple of years have renewed faith in Matthew Knights' men. We took a bet of $10,000 at $2 yesterday."

Nick Heathcote of Eskander's Betstar said Carlton was the bet of the round, as long as Brendan Fevola has his kicking boots on.

"Carlton at $1.72 should cruise past the Swans at $2.15. The $1.72 seems a very big price and 7.5 start at the line won't be enough," Heathcote said.

"I have no doubt they'll be roaring this week after the embarrassing loss to an expected bottom-four side in Essendon.

"Alternatively, I think Hawthorn ($1.32) seem well under the odds when they host Port ($3.45).

"This is Port's big chance to silence the critics and prove they are on track to make the finals."

Man, I've slapped some on Sydney. Carlton cannot play the SCG nor the Swans.

Will also put some on the Roos as they seem good value.

Tough week to pick. Probably just have a punt on a Geelong/Bulldogs multi.

I think the Hawks at the line are a good bet -23.5 IIRC.

Getting Lewis, Sewell, Taylor and Campbell back to replace the injuries from last week. Port will struggle to cover the loss of Cassisi and Burgoyne.

Love Collingwood tonight +10.5 8 day break v 6 day break plus Woods recent good record at the ground

Hawks/Saints/Cats at about evens in a treble

looking at Carlton at the moment, might have a play on them

Also like PAMFC +8.5 on Sundie
