$1.45 kangas - Richmond - i mean Richmond barely gave a meow yesterday against melbourne, while the kangas battled it out for a 2 goal win against the bombers.

i thought the kangas would be closer to $1.30

Essendon (although 2 days less recovery), West Coast and Carlton look reasonably priced for those who don't like backing favourites

Will have a dabble on Carlton this week. Have beaten the Dogs last two outings and seem to match up OK on them...

Port have owned the Saints in recent years at AAMI ... I know this appears to be a different Saints outfit, but I reckon the power have the midfield to reduce Dal Santo's effectiveness and no Kosi reduces the Saints forward tall timber to just Riewoldt.

I'm leaning toward the Power

I'm going to put $25 on Carlton highest score and $25 on Western Bulldogs highest score. Both teams are $8.

Both teams will be playing indoors, both play free flowing footy and all other teams barring Kangas and Tiges are playing in the wet.

DESPITE two successive losses, the stumbling Blues have been heavily backed to bounce back on Sunday.

Carlton has been crunched in national betting markets after opening the week about $2.10.

"We opened them at $2.10 and took a bet of $10,000 and another of $5000 at the line (6.5 points), plus a string of four-figure sums," said Michael Sullivan of Sportingbet Australia.

"It has been a concerted go and the money has come from some smart punters who don't usually get it wrong.

"And punters are off the Western Bulldogs (Carlton's opponents) after two trips to the West in four weeks. They badly need a refreshen.

"The Bulldogs are now out to $10 to win the AFL premiership following their first loss of the season against the West Coast Eagles.

"And they have a tough draw.

"Two games in Perth in the first four weeks, a trip to Adelaide, two six-day breaks culminating in a game against Geelong and trips to Canberra and Darwin means the Dogs have received no favours in the first half of the season."

Norm Short of Flemington Sportsbet reported the same level of interest in Carlton.

"They have been $2.20 into $1.93 with us and the money keeps coming," Short said.

"The Blues beat the Doggies by 28 points at Telstra last year and have the extra break. And while the weather won't be a factor in that game, it should come into play at the MCG on Sunday in the Melbourne-Adelaide match.

"Get on the Demons at the start of 17.5 points."

In Brownlow action St Kilda's Nick Dal Santo is the surprise packet this week, given favourite Gary Ablett produced one of his finest performances in Round 4.

Jake Norton of Betfair said punters were warming to Dal Santo producing his current form for an entire season.

"He has been backed from $190 into a $12.50 third favourite, with one punter unleashing on him at the $20," Norton said.

MICK Malthouse and Eddie McGuire weren't the only ones feeling the pain of Collingwood's inexplicable last-three-minutes fade-out at the MCG on Saturday. Coach Malthouse declared his team had let down the Anzacs - an extraordinary claim given he has always been at pains to distance war and football.

Maybe he got it wrong on two counts - one being that no sporting team should ever be mentioned in the same breath as those who sacrificed their lives for this country, the other being the Anzacs actually loved a bet and quite probably would have got involved late in the day when the Magpies capitulated.

They may well have helped themselves to the $7.60 about Essendon before Ricky Dyson and David Zaharakis somehow stole the show.

Also feeling the pain were those who may have thought the $1.01 about Collingwood was better than taking bank interest.

"We took $40,000 when Collingwood was $1.01 with just over two minutes to go, and the Bombers, who had started $3.25 outsiders, were out to an all-game high of $7.60," Jake Norton of Betfair said.

"The Bombers were well-backed, being $3.20 into $2.70 with Sportsbet in Darwin, but the bagmen took the points on the game through the multis."

One win for punters was in the Anzac Day Medal. Winner Paddy Ryder had a number of fans at $34 with Sportingbet Australia.

"We actually had 27 different punters find Ryder, which in the context of such betting is a big number," Michael Sullivan of Sportingbet Australia said.

"The biggest betting game was Port Adelaide and St Kilda, with a bet of $50,000 on Port Adelaide at $1.87, and there was also plenty of money for Geelong, as you would expect."

Geelong's situation and that of its midfield superstar Gary Ablett is very similar to last year, with the premiership-Brownlow double now as short as $3.50 in some markets.

"We have that double at $3.50, which is around the same price as Geelong was for the flag when betting markets opened. It's hard to believe, but goes to show how dominant all things blue and white are," Gerard Daffy of SportsAlive said.

The prize for the unluckiest punter goes to the person who had $300 at $61 about a draw in the Essendon-Collingwood game.

"That bloke with the alphabet in his name (Zaharakis), was entitled to kick a point when he was tackled which would have made it a draw," he said.

From a tipster's view point, given four was an average score, you would swear the bookies had cleaned up. But not so, according to Gary Davies of TAB Sportsbet.

"It certainly wasn't as good as it should have been. The Blues were backed from $2.10 into $1.85," Davies said.

"We took a bet of $40,000 at $1.90 about them to win by more than 6.5 points and there was good money for, of all sides, Fremantle.

"One punter - and you would have to say he was a smart one - had $40,000 on the Dockers at $1.90 to win by more than 8.5 points and $30,000 on them straight out at $2.30."

I don't understand this bit? If the Dockers were outsiders at $2.30 H2H, surely they would have been paying more at -8.5?

Great read btw Dutchy, thanks for passing on.

Would have been "in the run" CP, maybe at quarter time or they got it wrong and was +8.5 not -

As betfair gets bigger and bigger here we will see more of this, happens all the time in the UK, was a match a few months back where $1m was traded on Arsenal @ $1.01 when 4-2 up with 3 min to play and the opposition (forget who it was) scored 2 goals to draw it

So in Sat's match you could have risked $400 to win $40,000 by laying Collingwood and won $40,000 8)
