TAXI PETE STAKE

Postby mal » Wed Apr 29, 2009 10:07 am

Greyhound stalwart and larger than life personality Taxi Pete is in sponsorship mode.
Taxi Pete is sponsoring a race at Virginia coursing this Sunday aptly named the TAXI PETE STAKE.
Taxi Pete is putting up $300 to sponsor the race, a noble guesture

Who is Taxi Pete?

I first met the great man a couple of decades ago
He was Aussie Post Pete in those days
A young man, wild gambler, womaniser, and card player extroadanaire
TP a sensational net bowler who mesmerizes MT79 with his flippers
Our paths crossed at Angle Park dogs and he was soon accepted in my social set.
In those days Mondays and Thursdays were gambling at the dogs, pizza, and card games after.

For whatever reason Taxi pete left Aussie Post and was unemployed.
I recall he was going rough on the punt and was struggling for $$$$
He was also a very poor Poker player.
I had to do what I had to do.
I found him a job thru the Mal Employment agency driving a cab for softcock Ritchie.
He quickly found his niche as a cabbie
And I took my employment commissioins in our card games....

Taxi Pete continues to venture the dog tracks around SA
Taxi Pete is also known as the Kennel Foreman for some local trainers
Also goes by the names of Jack, Bird, LBBL, Kennel Foreman, and off courseTaxi Pete.

Perhaps his most honourable participation in the Greyhound industry is his work at Virginia
Pete is one of the maintenance men at the coursing track
He is Mr Personality at Virginia

Taxi Pete is a lovely guy, reminds me of Coogan in Sunshine
Always has opinions in Footy/Cricket and a very outspoken enigmatic character.
A great man
Keep punching LB ...

VIRGINIA COURSING

Been there several times myself, I enjoy the day out
A very good track to follow dogs
Dogs who course invariably race well on circular tracks when produced there
I keep an eye on the dogs that race At Virginia when doing my dog form at AP/GAW

Track is at Virginia
Address Park Street
Race Sundays
300m straight grass track no turns
The lure is in the middle of the track
Usually match races over 300m
They run about 15 seconds over this distance

There is a consensus[including me] that believe dogs that race at Virginia race better when produced in circular dog tracks
The theory is they get confidence by not being checked in the straight races
Also its a good for fitness as is a short distance

Taxi Pete is a legend out there

Taxi Pete posted a few times on Safooty as the Kennel Foreman
Unfortunately Taxi Pete passed away a few days ago

Pete was one of the funniest joke tellers Ive heard
Ive used some of his material in the Best Jokes Thread

He loved his cricket , I dont think he ever played competition cricket , but he loved having a hit in the nets with his mates

And he loved to punt , and he was drawn into posting in this Gambling Room
There was never a TOMorrow for Pete , when he was alive , he lived for the day

R.I.P Taxi Pete
