NBL SEASON 2009/2010

Postby BIG RED DELICIOUS 2 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 4:46 pm

The new NBL season kicked off last night with n/z smashing cairns by 20pts

shorter games this year with only 10 min quarters instead of 12mins quarters. Meaning the total points will be around 170ish for the match. Last night N/z shot the lights out and it still went under 171.5pts....... not sure what to make of that

tonight i like perth for the WIN against hawks, into crocs +1.5 against the Blaze paying $3.60

$50 on to collect $162

any thoughts or suggestions please post

Cmon DUTCHY lets here what u got going?

New Zealand already look like they will be very hard to beat either at home or on the road. Suggest that the 36ers will be more than competitive, tonight's game against Cairns aside (who will be extremely hard to beat at home against most opposition).

The new 10 minute quarters seem to, 4 games in, be suggesting that, yes, scores around the 170 point mark will be the benchmark.

Don't underestimate Wollongong early on, will depend on whether they can sustain the spirit after the first seven weeks or so though. Not convinced on Perth at all, despite what appears to be a couple of good ins. That's not the youngest squad going around.

How Gold Coast shapes up under Joey Wright will be interesting. Their defence was non-existent at times last year, preferring to aim for the big scores while coughing up bigger ones. Wright tends to have his teams playing free flowing basketball with equal emphasis on defence. Might surprise against higher placed teams.

In tonights game Cairns at home look too strong for Gold Coast. The Blaze have a new import, Erron Maxey, making his debut in the league which will be a big wake up call to him. With James Harvey struggling with a hip complaint, point guard Ubaka on one leg (unlikely he'll play), and bigman Petrie ruled out injured also, this game could be a white wash.

The line of -6.5 Cairns is the clear bet of the night.

If there's an easier game than Basketball to fix the margin, please let me know... won't touch it.

The Cairns line of -6.5 was not enough for the undermanned Blaze to cover.

Strong rumour that Kirk Penney has injured his back and won't be playing tonight against the Melbourne Tigers.
The TAB has suspended betting already but if you shop around, some markets are still open for this game.
Melbourne +8.5 looks a safe bet.

Thanks for the Cairns tip mate :D .

Line has been re-opened at +5.5 on the TAB - what are your thoughts on that one?

Both of tonight's games will be close. The Melbourne vs Townsville will be low scoring due to Melbourne relying on good defence to win and Townsville backing up from a hard game last night which saw them come back from 17 down in the third quarter to only loose by a Gilchrist game winner with 2 seconds to go.
My bet will be halftime combined score of under 83.5.

In the Wollongong vs Cairns game, this will be very close. With Cairns playing earlier in the week and having a history of not travelling well I am leaning towards Wollongong to win in front of their home crowd. I will also have something on either team to win by under 5.5 points.

A quick look on the NBL results and its only like 3 out of 16 games or something have gone over 180 as far as I can tell.... and Melbourne and Adelaide certainly haven't shot over 90 much if at all... I will be taking the Under/Adel -3.5... and crossing my fingers

its more expensive than the footy is.. and this only goes for 40 mins... the half time break is longer than the quarters are

unless i get free tickets or two for ones... never going again

I used to be a season ticket holder about 6 years back and had had them for about the previous 5 years before that. Never again, basketball in Australia is an absolute shambles.

First off it's 40 mins plus time on so you end up there for around 1hr 45 mins...

Wed nites game was attrocious and if that was the only game I had been to for a while I could understand you not wanting to go back. Lacked passion, scoring ability, atmosphere, poor poor poor

BUT

I went to first two games, on sat nites, and they were high quality, exciting games with big crowds ( 5000+). Absolute advertisement for basketball in Australia. I certainly will be going back again throughout the year

Oh and by the way the under got up by a lazy 30 points ;)

i also went to the game against townsville... up by 20 odd points, and win with a buzzer beater...
good finish but would rather them of won easy.

still not worth the ticket price.
