731 R.I.P ???

Postby mal » Wed Sep 30, 2009 11:38 am

Is it the death of greyhound Distance Racing in SA ?
In the month of September there were NO distance races at Angle Park
The last Distance race to my knowledge was on August 31 at headquarters
Simply not good enough for whatever reasons

WHY
GRSA have programmed distance races but prob thru a lack of nominations had to delete them
The club was prob left with no choice
If programming of these races are intermittent and without a set regularity this may have left trainers and connections of stayers confused on how to prepare or place dogs for these races
Whatever the reason a solution needs to be worked out

SOLUTION
Have distance races on every week
Prop up the prizemonies so dogs placed 2nd or 3rd and unplaced dogs are given added $$$
For example
$4000 race

$2000 1st
$800 2nd
$500 3rd
$300 4th
$200 5th
$100 6th
$50 7th + 8th

If we have a stayer dominating, it will give the others who make the fields a chance to be earning $$$

Make it known to all trainers/owners that from June 30 2010 there will be distances races of a minumum of 1 per meeting
This will enhance a depth of stayers
It will give trainers a chance to prepare stayers

Something must be done

they should do what they did at albion park as they've got the distant races back & didn't they have a marathon last week as well ?

they should also get the hurdles back as they were always good to bet in & were a great spectacle....who remembers weinburg (vic), golden unicorn (tas), while colonel scott rings a bell here in sa
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Congratulations to the Grading Review Panel at headquarters
There is some good news concerning distance racing at Angle Park
There was a recent increase in prizemonies for dogs that are placed in distance races
MON
$1600
$855 1ST
$325 2ND
$170 3RD

THU
$3150
$1870 1ST
$670 2ND
$340 3RD
$70 4TH

Ands theres more
To ''encourage" more dogs to compete in 731 m races the club is trying a new initiative
All dogs to recieve unplaced prizemonies
Yep you run a dog on a Monday that runs 4-5-6-7-8th or Thursday that runs 5-6-7-8th you get $$
$ 50 is the new payment

Great initiative by the boys in the Grading committee to try this
Hopefully now we will have more nominations leading to more distance racing

The $50 might attract poor to ordinary dogs initially, but the standard will improve
More 731 mtrs racing = more dogs being being tried as stayers
Trainers can now contemplate purchasing handy Interstate stayers to race here
Too many of them get are the plane and are getting off at the Perth Airport

RESERVE DOGS
Should there be any compensation for the reserve dogs that have missed a run ?
Perhaps at its next run over the 731m, a relinquish of nomination fees ?
We dont want the trainers of dogs missing out to be disencouraged

Looking forward to more 731 mtr races

Thats good no nom fees.

This is what I was alluding to VicGirl
You have a choice of nominating for a sprint or distance
You are almost certainly assured of the sprint run
But you have nominated for a distance run
You miss out on making the 8 and are a reserve dog
Should there be some sMALl compensation ?
Maybe $15 for not getting a run ?

Fingers crossed ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOburger
Wouldnt it be great if a SA trainer developed a stayer and we won the National Distance Championship in the next 2-3 years

When I think of some of the past great stayers from SA
Ascapella Miss
Palmeston Lass
Cape Soon [what a tradegy this dog met]
Red Flag
Bayroad Queen
Bothing
Bills Hope
And theres more

Distance racing is exciting
To see the genuine stayers flasssssssshing home is a thrill to watch

Bayman is right
Match races
Hurdles
They also are an attraction
