Starting a thread for those that are interested in punting on the NBA. Early season is very unpredictable but it generally gets easier as the season goes on and you start to see how certain teams are going to pan out.

Boston Celtics +5 @ 1.91 - $50 v Cleveland Cavs

Usually I would always take the home team in this series, because they are the team that always seems to get the spread, however I think there are a number of big factors that could push this game the other way. The adjustment of having Shaq join the team along with Delonte West's craziness in the off-season and I'd think the Cavs might start a little unsettled. Boston want to prove a point that they are still a power, and with Rondo taking another step and the addition of Wallace off the bench should see them stick within 5.

Have to say I also like the Over in the Dallas game, and most likely the LA game if its 211 or less. If I had to lean to one side on the Portland game I'd take the under.

Good work Brent, was going to start a thread today as well!!
I'm going to have a crack at the Association this year. I will usually bet on any team but have my favourites that I know a bit more about and will favour games involving them. Great thing about the NBA is there are games every day (could also be bad I suppose)!
System 1:
I'm going to start with $100 in my Centrebet account and bet 10% of what is left on each game. Doing this with centrebet as they allow part dollar betting. If i have 2 or more bets on the same day, each will be for the same value.
System 2:
Bet on Cleveland and LA Lakers to win. I will vary the amounts, but these teams should both win 60+ games.
Can't wait til Wednesday! :D :D

System 2 sounds very sensible to me mate, as does your betting plan above (especially if you want to ensure it doesn't get out of hand), good luck with it, reckon I'll have a few stabs this season again too.

Have never ended up on the right side of the ledger in punting on NBA but have had a couple of small wages on tomorrows games just for interest sake.

$10 Boston +4.5 Cavs have a few adjustments they need to get used to. A fit and healthy Boston are very tough to beat especially by 5 points or more.

$10 Lakers / Clippers over 206 @ $1.91 - Lakers generally have no troubles getting 105-110. With the addition of the athletic Blake Griffin think the clips will look to play an uptempo game.

Also $20 multi on Dallas / Portland / Lakers win @ $1.68

A few weeks ago i put $100 on Blake Griffin for Rookie of the year @ $2.40 - provided he stays injury free he shouldnt have too much opposition.

Blake Griffin is likely out tomorrow after suffering a knee injury, either way I can quite easily see the Lake show getting 110-115 and the over shouldn't be a worry.

System 1: Cleveland Win $10@ 1.50
System 2: Clev $5@1.50, LA Lakers $5@ 1.15

Don't want to touch Portland/Houston, but would expect Portland to win at the line -9.5.

I have taken a 4 leg multi for the first day of the NBA season
Cleveland win @ $1.45 (Start of the Shaq and LeBron show)
Lakers win @ $1.12 (Obvious choice)
Dallas/Washington u205.5 @ $1.85 (Nowitski wont score enough to go over but he will score enough to get Dallas a first up win)
Portland/Houston o186.5 @ $1.85 (Houston not known as a high scoring team but with Yao out they will run the floor more and improve their record, Portland will make the playoffs with plenty of depth in offence)

$8 on to collect $44.40

I have three bets going today..

1. Boston +5 @ 1.91
2. Boston +5, Dallas/Washington O205, Dallas Win @ 4.4
3. Lakers -10, Lakers/Clips O206, Dallas/Washington O205, Dallas WIN @ 8.61

$50 on each. Could be a costly start to the season, but I love the NBA and went overboard because I am excited :o .

Also going to do a day 1, 6 way $20 multi on the below picks for the first day of the year.
Boston +5 / Under 183.5 v Cavs, Dallas -8, Portland -8.5, Lakers -10.5, Bos/Cle U183.5, LA/LA O202 @ 46.5

Boston +5, UNDER 183.5 v Cleveland
Both tough, defensive teams. Usually two defensive teams + first few games = under. I really like the additions that Boston have made in the offseason whereas I am not so sure about the addition of Shaq early in the season. Later he might be great, but might create more problems for them early in the piece.

Dallas -8, v Washington
Without Jamison in this mix, Washington will find it very, very hard to match up on Dallas and I can't see them getting within 8. Dirk should have a field day with 27-35 and I can see Terry and Marion both going for 20. On the other side of the coin Arenas & Foye should be able to dominate Kidd on the offensive end. Washington has been horrible defensively in the pre-season, and frequently gave up 105-115 to capable teams late last year and I see this playing out in the range of 110-98 range.

Portland -8, v Houston Rockets
I don't like the addition of Miller to Portland, but then again the Rockets are basically a team of good role players, no actual go-to guys. If Oden stays out of foul trouble, this will be a rout. He should have his way with Scola/Hayes. The over/under in my eyes, depends on if Portland can shut down Aaron Brooks and his penetration. I think Portland can defend the 3 well enough, which will be Houston's strength this year.

Lakers -10, OVER 202 v LA Clippers
Lakers are far too talented, even against a Clippers team that looks on the improve this year. Griffin is a big out for the Clippers, even if he is yet to suit up in the regular season. Over 206 looks to me as the easiest pick of all 8... although this is usually the one that fails.

My only NBA multi bet as my knowledge on NBA is limited.

Washington Wizards at Dallas Mavericks - Dallas Mavericks
Houston Rockets at Portland Trail Blazers - Portland Trail Blazers
Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers - Over - Win - Total Points (>183.5)

I have, but am trying to steer away from multi bets and over/under if possible.
Having said that, for system 1 if there are 2-3 solid winners I may bundle them together.

Not writing anything off yet, seen the strange bizarre stuff happen too many times in the NBA. If they get the total score to 40 by the end of the 1st quarter I wouldn't be too concerned about O205. They are shooting horribly so far, both teams haven't hit 1 three and both teams would be high on the list of 3's per game in the NBA.

38 points in the 1st quarter. not a bad start, need to lift the pace to get the O205.
*edit! sorry 42 points*
