TAB FORMGUIDES + ON COURSE FORMGUIDES

Postby mal » Tue Jun 06, 2006 10:19 pm

MT79 and I ventured into Gawler today.

We dropped into the Gawler TAB where we met a lovely
lady with whom we had a chat with.
We agreed that the TAB form was adequate for the form enthusiasts.
I asked if she was allowed to display additional superior formguides.
She said that as franchisees they are not allowed to put up additional
formguides and were restricted to the TAB form.

MT79 and I left thinking they spend about $10k for the franchise
and have to follow implicit standards.

In WA they recently revamped the formguides for thier dog meetings.
The result was a substantial rise in turnover.
I have seen this formguide on the net and must say it was the best.
formguide i have ever seen.
The TAB lady get into the website and was astounded with this form bank.

MT79 and I then went to her competition the GAWLER dogs.
The foRmguide on course for the dogs was better than the TAB.
However the TAB lady would be pleased that her competitors had NO
formguides for the races and trots displayed anywhere on course.

Both GAWLER and ANGLE PK have never ever put up TROTS AND RACES
form...and they wonder why people dont roll up anymore.

Just an observation we made today on our day out.

I must say i find it highly amusing that people purchase a TAB outlet to franchise but are then restricted to the form they are allowed to show.

I know there are a few agencies that do put out 'The Sportsman' and other racing papers for their customers but they arent supposed to do it due to the restrictions, which is almost restriction of trade because bigger and better form guides would create more turn-over.

Im amazed that Angle Park and Gawler dont put up form for other race meetings that are run at the same time as there meetings, it wouldnt be that hard to print out form and create some turn-over. I havent been to the trots for a while but I did go for a while on a regular basis and they have a board where they pin up form for all the meetings being run just adjacent to the betting ring. if the trots can do it why cant the dogs.

Given the turnover on course is substantially higher then off-course turn-over you would think that the clubs would be doing anything and everything to get people to bet on anything and everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to the Settlers in Ingle Farm a month or two ago - they had some form guide from a guy printed on a page - had some tips for the races (mainly Eastern States) - nt sure what it was - can't remember the guy's name.

as you two (mal & mt79) know my mum works at the tab & what you say is WRONG the tab MUST put up the tab sheets first but there is NO RESTRICTIONS on form guides/papers for display its up to the individual agency as to what they do & you should know mt as you frequent where mum works (glenelg south) that they have a variety of form in the agency & as she just told me they have surepicks hanging there as well as the form guides but in fairness its mainly form for races & NOT MUCH FOR THE DOGS & TROTTS though, but they (tabs) are allowed but choose not to spend a few bucks on papers etc lets face it if they spent $4.30 on the harness weekly they'd get form for thursday, friday, saturday & sunday & then there's the dog paper which has form in it for about half the week but not sure what days exactly but its always there when i but my weekly so i'd presume thursday, friday & saturday, i've just rung my mate that has dogs (woke him up) it is what i said plus wednesday & some for monday for the dog paper & its called 'national greyhound form' but getting back to the point & that is they're allowed to put up what they want as long as the tab supplied sheets are up first most of them that run tabs wouldn't know what form is
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

BAYMAN
Thanks for that confirmation about the form
The lady at that gawlerTAB would be unaware of those guidelines.

Also Ive been to a few TABS and have not spotted any extra
formguides, but obviously some have.

Do you get trots and dog form at the races on course?
Do you get race and dogs at the trots on course?

Seems to me that if the on course TABS are getting between 10-15 %
commision they should put up formguides.

At Angle pk $1.4 million or there abouts is paid to the administration
per year...surely somone could print some formguides to put up on course.

National Greyhound Weekly (RIP) & Greyhound Tabform (MELB) & Greyhound Recorder (SYD) are the only betting guides I'm aware of- I used to buy all 3 religiously.

If I owned a TAB, I'd provide these Free of Charge to regulars/big punters.
