heard a story tonight that the only bookie at globe derby has threatened to quit friday & saturday nights for good because of a 'proposed' poor location for him compared to the other 3 or 4 bookies that will front up for the next 2 weeks & the only 2 weeks they front up for the entire year.....the bloke who told me seemed very adamant this was the case which to me is a slap in the face to the bookie that goes every week & he should be rewarded by turning up every week

fact is that if he provides the BEST ODDS and SERVICE then the punters will support him reguardless where he his located. Sounds like a storm in a teacup to me.

Don't think your 100% fair with that comment JJ. Their has to be some loyalty and reward for the bloke who fields all year round. Cos No one else is putting their hand up to do it. (If Malfair wasn't such a fill up, Mal could be out their).

The bloke who pretends to be a bookie (Hollywood) Never fields in a betting ring, Lucky to bet under 170% But some of the race clubs and some people in power think he's the greatest bookie around. He's not trying to make a book, only trying to fleece the punter.
If you don't protect the blokes who work all year round thats what you'll have left. Carnival bookie who only want to rob the punter only.
Cos still can find value with the bookies. Not every race but on many other races. Their like all of us, trying to win for the day, Why give big price about the horse they think will win?

agree with that 100% centreman

can i ask a question with 'the death of the bookie' that will eventually happen (forgetting the corporates) would any racing club consider having malfair accounts/screens etc on course & let the punters bet with them as if they are the bookie ? because i'm sure that malfair & a racing club could agree on a deal (ie if your at angle park you bet on malfair taking someones odds using angle parks account)

Im hardly Damarell's biggest fan but considering there is usually at least 6 or 7 stands at the Trots on Cup night [1 either end of the stand out the front, 1 in the members dining area and 3 or 4 ish in the main ring], I think he should at least get first pick on where he wants his stand.

- Does he actually run 2 stands normally on Cup night ????

where is Dammerall being Located??? If they bring in 3 extra bookies and there are a total of 4 in a line, wots the prime position?? Why wouldn't Dammerall just set up his stand where he wants within reason, and what are the reasons that would prevent him from doing that???
