with the recent lucys light sting i was wondering what other sting has happened with either sports or racing whether you won or not i have plenty mainly against /with 'poor old' johnny thornton i'll just give you two for now & add on more during the week

1, obviously the last one was $100.00 e/w a horse at $11.00 when it was an even money chance only a few weeks ago, the horse is called endeared & it won

2, essendon was playing north melbourne in a final a few years ago & led by about 8 goals at 1/4 time, we were at elizabeth & it was near the start of the cd v glenelg game & i looked at the board & they still had the afl game up i found my brother & a couple of mates including mal & i just took the win bet of about 1/2 from memory while some of the others took the points was money for jam they won by over 10 goals, i'm sure those that day that worked for johnny thought every game started at the same time & didn't realise that melbourne were a half hour in front of us & as i said i have heaps mal knows them he may even put some up before i do later including the rugby gf one a few years back but i'll leave that for tomorrow night but let me see what you blokes have done

John Thornton bet 3/1 Port POwer to make the afl final 8
one day at footy park...the rest of australia was 1/3.
Several punters took advantage that day.
You would think one of the monkeys on the staff that
day would have realised..........

You could write a book I mean Encyclopedia on the errors he makes.

1) at Footy Park back in '95, was standing at Thornton's, deciding whether to have a bet or not, the 3rd quarter had just started & I heard (Thornton had a call of the game going on his radio for all to hear) Chris Johnson (Fitzroy) had marked in the fwd pocket- he was 8/1 for 1st goal scorer. The market was stil open, I backed him (despite not knowing what angle he was on) & he goaled.

2) Curly offering North Adelaide + 15.5 pts, when they should have been - 15.5 pts (the error was realised & swiftly changed after my bet), North duly saluted.

3) Getting 4.20 about North (who'd beaten the Bays prior to the bye) in R3 2004, against Norwood. I plunged heavily & North saluted. This wasn't a mistake as such (both Curly & Thornton were betting a similar price), more a case of me being aware of North being a bit better than what people thought.

4)at Angle Park one night, the board stayed open despite a Dapto race being run & won- I watched a "colleague" casually walk up & back the winner, went outside, handed his ticket to a mate, who came back in & collected.

the year was 2000 i was at footy park for one of the finals & johnny was betting on the rugby but he didn't know daylight saving was already in, in nsw so i beg, borrowed & stole!! to get up a bank i think it was brisbane but they were 4/10 & were about 10 or 12 up with 10 minutes to go so i casually got on, ironically i told mal that day but he had backed central at 8/10 at half time & had none left to back it & collected as well i know it was short but when they're home & hosed its good to get on isn't it ?

Must be a regular occurrence then. Also an advantage being on track, is to be able to take advantage of these mistakes.
My dad told me a punting story at Kapunda/Gawler Trotts, where a Bookie put up his market to about 80%- he went & backed the field accordingly, & won no matter the result.

myself & a few mates went to a port v sturt game at alberton (glenelg not playing that day) about 6-8 years ago & at the start of the day port were 1/8 & looked like good things prior to the game anyway sturt led by 27 points at 3/4 time & looked like winning i distinctly remember that white finally stood up to leys & brained him & thornton was betting evens sturt so between 4 of us we went to have a grand on them, the guy working for jt rang him up & we only got 500 on & sturt went onto win by 55 points, we then complained to the bcb or whatever they're called & we got paid the other 500 so in fact we had 500 on at 2/1 not a bad bet, this is not really a sting but it did sting johnny as that was the last day they were seen at a suburban ground so you can blame us for jt not going to grounds anymore
