Champion SA reinswoman Dani Hill seriously injured in Globe Derby fall.
Danielle Hill, last season's Australasian Young Driving Champion and the leading female driver in South Australia is today recovering in the Royal Adelaide Hospital from serious injuries received in a race fall at Globe Derby Park yesterday.
Danielle was taken to the RAH late afternoon after being treated at the track by Ambulance paramedics for serious head and facial injuries. The fall occurred as the field entered the home straight in the last race. Danielle's was driving Puaxtacy which crashed to the track after appearing to clip the sulky in front of her as she changed course. Il Sogno (Paul Cavallaro) was the only horse behind Puaxtacy and the driver could not avoid the fall. Stewards said there was no driver error that caused the fall and they have adjourned their inquiry into the incident. Danielle's family, including her mother Sue, father Gary and her reinsman brother Wayne, who drove in the same race were at her side immediately after the accident and at the hospital through the night. Gary said he watched the race on Sky and rushed to his daughters side as soon as he saw the fall.
"I could see it was a nasty fall and I jumped in the car straight away," Gary said. Danielle was operated on last night and Gary has been told that there will be many more operations ahead of her.
"The injuries are serious and its going to a long road ahead for Dani's recovery," he said. "The doctors are concerned about her right eye and the number of facial fractures to be repaired including breaks to her cheek, jaw and nose."
Please join Harness Racing SA in wishing Danielle a full and speedy recovery.

after listening to her father on this mornings harness show on 5rph the operations so far have been basically ok however there is a great deal of concern about her sight in one eye as there should be some sight coming back & it hasn't so far (up to then), so hopefully the eye comes good as she recovers, he added that she'd be in hospital for another 2 or so weeks...i hope & pray she recovers 110%

Premier South Australian reinswoman Danni Hill heads home from hospital today and was hoping to watch her “baby” Kiwago race at Globe Derby Park on Friday night.
Hill trains Kiwago and yesterday said its race was one of the things she has been looking forward to. But unfortunately, today the pacer was balloted from its event and she will have to wait for another day.
“Really I’m just glad to be leaving hospital after spending three weeks here,” she said.
A photograph of Kiwago’s only win from its 15 start career has hung above Hill’s hospital bed next to her photos of Smarty Jones winning the final race during the 2009 Australasian Young Driving Championship at Parklands and her Globe Derby 2009 premiership memento with David Harding.
Last year’s AYD Champion and SA’s female race win record breaker struggles with the prospect that her race driving career may be over and in typical winning fashion she refuses to concede defeat. Two weeks ago surgeons at Royal Adelaide Hospital operated on Hill’s right eye in an attempt to save the sight of the eye and last week performed major reconstructive surgery on her face.
“I am happy with the results of last week’s op and I will be doing everything I can to fix my sight as well, anything’s possible and I won’t give up,” she said.
