Calm your tits fellas.

Whats wrong with a buy in poker tournament though? Making it free only will kill the industry and wont get me playing, ever.

Aren't the ones at footy clubs free anyway? They were last time I played in them. That was about 5 years ago though. Winners qualified for bigger tournaments.

With any tournament that has a prize at the end of it could be classed as gambling, therefore shutting down the pub/club games.

Will only drive poker back underground or the casino... And we all know that the casino doesn't really give a flying **** about the players[/quote]
Think this has come about due to the rise of businesses offering Poker Fundraising events to Sporting Clubs and interest groups. What happens is the organisation sells tickets to an event which gets you 'tokens' or 'Chips' the tournament starts and you have a period where you can buy back in to the tournament and the purchase goes to the organisation as profit.

For as little as $1500 outlay clubs can offer paid accommodation to Bali (flights not included), iPads and poker tables......

Clubs can easily double their outlay of they get the right amount of people to an event.

plenty of ones that are buyin.

the biggest ones are probably from pokersa, which runs an operation out of the maylands hotel.

has buyins ranging from $50 to $2400 periodically, and also runs rake free cash games, with a "food and beverage" charge of $20 per hour.

I suspect that it is the cash games rather than the tournaments that have caught the attention of people, if i had to guess.

They really do run a great operation there though, it would be such a shame to see it shut down.

If this was a move towards regulation of both live and online poker i would support it, but i dont suspect that to be the case.

Had an interesting one the other night.

Playing 2/2 in the addict lounge.
AsQs UTG and raise to $12, CO and button call, both blinds fold. Pot is $40.

Flop:
AdQc8d

I bet $30, CO calls, button folds. Pot now $100

Turn:
Ks

I bet $65, CO calls again. Pot now $230.

River:
Qd to give a board of AKQQ8 (three diamonds).

While I'm considering how much to bet, the CO throws out a single $100 chip out of turn.

I've got just under $300 left in my stack and he's got me covered. What would you do?

How much did he have behind after the $100 bet?

Still a shove position though.

I would've bet harder on the turn, then jammed all in on the river.

I dont mind the turn bet. Slightly more than half the pot. Without knowing who we're up against would a pot size bet scare away any other action.... or could get really sneaky and try and check raise for stacks on the turn

CR turn looks pretty strong, doubt you ever get looked up by worse.

I do agree about betting bigger on the turn though. If you bet $85, it leaves you with a pot sized shove on the river.

Now given he has bet $100 out of turn, why wouldnt you shove? you lose to AA and thats it, and given you raised UTG he should be 3betting aces

Pre-flop when he called the $12 he looked in two minds, grabbed raising chips but then just flatted.
At first I put him on AK and when he called the turn I was almost convinced this was the case.

I think with both flushes and straights available by the river, this is a shove 98% of the time, but for whatever reason, whether it be the weird preflop or the fact he bet out of turn on the river, I just felt he had a monster.

Only Aces and Kings beat me, and both should raise preflop, and the kings potentially fold the flop too, especially given he had a player behind him on the button.

In the end I flatted and he showed KK.

It was the right play in this instance (well technically a fold would have been better), but I can't help but feel I should shove there irrespective of the fact that this time he happened to have it.

The rest of the table looked at me like I was a bloody idiot! haha

definitely shove mate.

As far as i can see, you have 6 combos of hands that beat you (3xAA, 3xKK) and they are both discounted by the fact that he 3bets more than he flats.

Hands that could play this way that you beat are

AKo
AQo
AJo
KQ
KJdd
KTdd
K9dd
TJ
T9
T8
88

(plus a whole slew of diamond suited connectors like 78, 68, 67, 56, etc etc)

Yeah I tend to agree.
BTW, it's only 4 combos as I block 2 of the 3 AA.

So what and where does everyone play? Tournaments, cash, pub "poker"....

No limit holdem, limit holdem, pot limit omaha etc....

Know it would probably never get up but a SA Footy poker night would be interesting to see

Do they still have pub poker?

I don't reckon I've really played frequently for a good 6 years or so, used to enjoy spending hours playing NL holdem online or at the casino.

racked up nearly a million hands online playing NLHE and PLO, but mostly NLHE tournaments.

Used to play 888pl quite a lot and final tabled i think 5 of their big events, including winning a state final for 10k and 5th in a grand final at crown for $7200. My biggest score was 3rd in the $1500 adelaide champs for 15k

nowadays without online poker and with a 2 year old, i go play 2/2 a few times a year and thats about it.
