G'day folks,
Was thinking maybe it is time to start posting our Cups Doubles (Caul/Melb) - again, in the one forum to keep it tidy. While it is always a long shot, the new $1 minimum for multis makes it attractive to try a few combinations.
Our Smoking Joe is at $17 for the Caul. Lee Freedman has rated it the "Best wet tracker he has ever had". IF it is a wet Cup, we know he will get the journey and ground.
Therefore: OSJ/Railings at $221
OSJ/On A Jeune at $289
OSJ/Tawqueet - $289
OSJ/Black Panther - $1207
All appeal. Already have Marju Snip/Tawqueet at $770 so far, so we'll see how it all goes, folks! Put your proverbials on the line here.

Also have Art Success/Railings going at $3 to win $2353 - all a bit of fun, and you should get a run for your money! Noticed that Marju Snip was out to $81 to win the Caulfield. Would strongly suggest putting a few bob each way on it at those odds. Trainer is strongly considering running it and has done everything right in two runs from a spell.

Folks, never let it be said I didn't throw the lead out on this last post: Marju Snip has been very heavily backed to win the Caulfield Cup since that to $31; Our Smoking Joe backed into $10. Would still suggest this is very good value; ensure that, even with the new $1 minimum Sportsbet Multis, you throw in both MJ and Our Smoking Joe into the first leg of a few to make for some interesting, high return doubles.

Well folks, time to revisit some of these punts, and have a look at some others, now that the next declarations are out!
OSJ (Our Smoking Joe)/Railings is now into $66, with OSJ/On A Jeune into $78, so happy with those two so far. The OSJ/Tawqueet, however, was the big mover, now into $48, so ol' Perce is pretty happy with the tickets I got some weeks back!
Marju Snip and Black Panther have dropped out of the Caulfield Cup, so did a few bob there - the risk of early punts - but at least the others aren't looking too bad.
Have added Railings/On A Jeune at the $225 on offer y'day before next declarations, along with OSJ/Grand Zulu at $427.
Maximum spent on any double is $3, so not much loss for a bit of fun to watch!

Well folks - looks like ol' Perce may set a record for the only forum where he is the SOLE poster! Didn't think I would be the only one taking doubles in the Cups!!
The final field for the Caulfield is out now, no huge changes in markets, but very, very ambitious having the 2nd Emerg, Zipping, as $6 second favorite, given it is unlikely to run. Would still suggest Our Smoking Joe good value at the $6. It is a generally thin field, and hard to make a real case for anything $31 and above, so some real value to still be found above that. Must confess to knowing very little about the Japanese visitor, Pop Rock, but do recall the bubble bursting on Eye Popper in the Melb. Cup last year when heavily supported, so tread warily there. Growl ran a great last sectional last week, so certainly one to work around there.
Do NOT be lulled into $3.50 on Sphenophyta - it is simply too short in the best field it has ever met. This is far too short, and I wouldn't have it less than about $8.00.
Will add a couple more doubles - OSJ/Art Success at $246. Art Success ran a bottler in a good Cranbourne Cup field last Sunday, and this is one of the few Vic. Provincial cups (along with Geelong) that is generally a reasonable Melb. Cup guide. He will certainly get the trip. Throw in OSJ/Cats Fun at $905 - a very long shot, but realistically, a LOT of the remaining Melb Cup chances are to be disregarded - but Cats Fun at $151 e/w is a good, sneaky, long ranger.

Squark Tawqeet won last start in a decent race and hadnt won since 2005 in the UK. I am going to back it for the Melb Cup, and a decent run in the Caufield wouldnt surprise me. I am also having a look at Serenade Rose, has not been great this campaign but ran a solid 3rd last start and will give this a shake if it leads.
Best bet of the Spring if you get on now is Racing to Win $3 to win the Cox Plate. Money for Jam.

You're on the money MDM - I backed OSJ for the Caulfield and Tawqueet did it over. Has copped a 2kg penalty for the big race but looking good. Do you think the right jockey (Dunn) is on him?

I dont think you need to worry about the jockey squawk, he is one of the best in the land! the most underrated jockey in australia without a doubt. just getting the recognition he deserves now because he is getting on some good horses riding with the hayes stable. great to see him getting success, very hard working and professional horseman. not as extroverted as your glenn bossesand the like but knows what he is doing. Tawqeet was a great run in the caulfield cup and as was stated will be better suited to the 2 miles.
onajeune is in again on wednesday in the geelong cup, won it last year and it has recently been a good guide for the cup with media puzzle, shes archie and onajeune coming through it, then running in the cup- the last two would have won melb cups if it was for a fair galloper in makybe diva. anyway onajeune is going along very very well and although Peter has stated his grand final isnt until the cup he will put in a bold showing on wednesday.
