So to kick things off here, the current news story of the AFL at least is in regards to the David King betting scandal.

What do people think about it??

I have only heard and read limited details on the story, but it would appear to me that the bookie is just trying to get out of paying

and to the on-field - rd 1 markets are up and about with some bookies. no real value at this stage that needs to be looked at to keep money tied up for that long

David King had 2 winning bets on Lewis Taylor winning the Rising Star Award
The bets were with Sportsbet
$500
$350
Odds $4-50
Winnings $2975

There was an allegation that King had inside information on the winner
King denies this
The Victorian detectives were called in

Betting on products where the public may know the result before hand is dangerous bookmaking
IF bookmakers want to bet on these markets, then should they bear the consequences ?

Despite what has happened , Sportsbet are betting on the 2015 Rising Star
So what if something similar happens again?

With potentially pre known events like Brownlow Medals, Rising Star awards , TV awards, who will win Leadership spills etc
If the Bookie wants to bet on them , should they query anyone who backs the winner ?

Bookies can get had as often as punters can pull it off IMO.

Nothing worse than a bookie crying foul. Tough luck.

Why don't they close the market early, so halfway (or 3/4s) through the season and then just add an "Any Other Runner" option?

Port going almost full strength against a not quite there WCE squad. Might be short with that line.
