Thanks legends, some great ideas.

I'd probably like to cap it at 5-6 serious punters, run it until AFL Grand Final. Don't want too many, otherwise you'd hardly get a punt.

Ours statred 5 years ago with 8 blokes putting 20 bucks a week in. Of that 160 we would bet 90 and bank 70. Last year we were going ok so we decided to forgo the banking and bet the 140 (one bloke withdrew at the start of 2015). We did horrendously. This year we've scaled it back to 100 a bet and 40 banking.

Rules are you have to bet the 100 and it has to result by Sun night of that weekend. We take it in turns alphabetically by surname. If you win 200 you go again.

The first two years we got a dividend of about 1000 each leaving the bank bare. Then we decided to keep the money in there and buy horses. We have two horses (Nicorossa) and a coming up two year old from Bullet Train. And 14k in the account. And yet I wouldnt say any of us have done well on the punt!

We were planning a weekend away to country Vic or do a Cox Plate or similar but most of the guys I am in the syndicate have either small kids or work in the golf industry so getting time off is difficult. We have managed to get the guys a weekend off so we are going up to our holiday house in early March and having a punting day at the Marina. Can't wait!

That sounds awesome.

The last syndicate I was in started pretty well and then just fell apart when people just tried to start pulling off 8 leg multis in the hope of something huge.

Clearly those other members lacked common sense.

Eg Syndicate of 5 people with $50 per week -$15 bank

$35 bet with.

Most hail Mary multi would return over the $35.
Spend $5 on various hail Mary's and spend $30 on a simpler bet

We have onr bloke who tries for quaddies and we encourage it because most of the rest of us try and pick 3 -6 buck winners.

You need people who bet extravagantly and sensibly to even things out.

There's heaps of different ways mate .. I'm in a few ..

Option A

4 Punters all put in $10 each a week and alternate weekends as to who punts .. Say Im up this weekend I spend the $40 however I see fit, and shit I collect higher than $40, I go again next week.

Option B

$10 a week, about 8 of us, we're just all giving selections in a quaddie leg, and just playing those .. Last year with this group it was 10 punters, 2 per week spending $30 each on whatever, and $40 between them on a Quaddie.

Option C

Bet a %age and bank a %age each week

Best thing you can do is all put in an initial starting amount that totals a couple $hunj, then look around and see what deposit offers are around .. Crownbet and Ladbrokes are usually the most generous, and you can split the free bet value into multiple smaller amounts.

Take a look on the RHS of this page: http://www.bettingpro.com.au/

Further to this, I'd avoid William Hill (because personally I reckon they are rubbish) and many say the same of Bet365, although it seems a lot of punters on Forums Are still using them.

My advice
Use Crownbet
Just about every Saturday they have bonus bets refunds up to $50 if your nag runs 2nd, usually Melbourne races
They have that promotion this Saturday

I was in a syndicate and we would run it from perth cup to stakes day. We would rotate the punt each week. You had to punt about 60 or so when it was your turn which equated to 15 per week. If you won it would go into bank. We would then punt a stack on caulfield, cox, derby, and cup day. Got a payout one year of 3k on caulfield cup day after getting quaddie. And had 2k to bet on derby etc

Run a punters club with a group of mates from footy.

10 blokes with each person depositing $100 per month. $50 into slush fund and $50 to punt.

We work on a roster and 2 x punters bet $50 each on allocated weekend. Winning bets go into slush.

Kick off mid-feb and run through til after Spring Carnival. Always a nice cash injection just before xmas....
