champion pacer breaksdown

Postby bayman » Mon Nov 13, 2006 6:46 pm

champion pacer 'it is i' has broken down yesterday during a trial & will miss the miracle mile & will be off the scene for at least 12 months

if this horse had four good legs instead of two it would be the best horse we've seen since preux chevalier in my opinion
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

would this be the end of the horse, ive lost count of how many injury lay offs its had.

perhaps here is a case for those to argue that horses should have mandatory spacing between runs, about 1 run every 18 months should be about right for this one unfortunately

i know it wouldnt have been overraced as it has hardly ever raced, epecially for a horse with the ability of this one, but with a few people on here seemingly so concerned for animal welfare should this horse be allowed to race again given its horrific injury record?

If the horse is raced in conventional circumstances, no interference from aniMAL welfare
groups, this particular horse is an isolated case of being injury prone+ difficult to assess.
The onus is on the owners/trainers and possibly the stewards as a decision process.
Failing that and the horse has a history of breaking down then aniMAL welfare should make a report and take action.
If the aniMAL is raced 3 times a week, then aniMAL welfare intervention is warranted.
