Multibets - odds

Hi everyone,

Have been reading this for a while, and like what I see. Seems to be a fair few punters on here with some sensible ideas on things, and certainly some good tips to follow.

I'm hoping someone may be able to clarify something for me on a racing multi today. I took Polar Bear to win both the Railway Stakes and the Fruit 'N' Veg Stakes in Perth in the next few weeks. He is $9 to win the Railway and $6 for the Fruit 'N' Veg - should be $54 by my calculations to win both.

My multi ticket, however, has only given odds of $35.30. When I asked the operator about it, she didn't know why this happened either. Any other time I have taken a multi involving two different horses, the multiplication has been correct. I did, however, take Railings to win both Caul and Melb ($14 Caul, $8 Melb at the time - $112) and it also only gave me $66.

Does anyone know of a rule where, if you want to back the same horse to win two races, there will be an automatic reduction of the odds?

Cheers
Plunge Penguin

i dont know how you got that div as i just punched it in my account to see what i'd get & for the $5.00 it was a $270.00 return

i'd be checking the ticket as you may have another horse instead of the one you want & welcome aboard pp

Hi Bayman,

Cheers for that - the thing that is intriguing about it all, is that has both horses' prices listed separately on the ticket as $9 and $6 also (is also the right numbers, but cheers for the heads up!), so it has recognised the respective odds. Even more baffled now!

Welcome to the stable PP,

Someone mentioned this rule to me over the cups carnival, if you have the same horse in both legs they make a deduction (20%?)...another reason not to bet with PUNITAB!

Ill see if I can find the rules for you

Found it on their website -

Selecting the Same Runner for both legs?
If the same runner is selected in both legs of the Double, the Book Managers will discount the payout due to the implication that a win in the first leg automatically reduces their price in the second leg.

The price shown on the COSTING screen will NOT be the price returned.

If you do not wish to accept the undisclosed discount, please use Telebet (131935 or +61 7 3632 6400) to place your bet.

A Joke, of course if it salutes in the first leg its going to reduce its divvie int he 2nd leg....unbelievable, Id be very suprised if any other agency does this

that is just beyond comprehension, how the f..k do they come up with that rule????????

i mean they should be happy that people are taking doubles and should offer the correct price. its hard enough to pick one winner let alone a double at times.....

the one good thing is that after x-mas we will be able to get trebles and double approx in agencies

that is what ive heard from a reliable source about the approximates and about BLOODY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IVe been on this since they took over!!!!!!!!!!!!

im not too sure about on-line but i cant see why not.

I mean if people are going for a big result in a double/treble then some save which means they are investing more which is more turnover which is what they want!!!!!!!! But its only taken them how long to get their act together???????? :? :? :?

Agree - it shouldnt be too hard...they used to have the approx. on the old SATAB website...might shoot them off an email and see if I get a reply

the thing about the double/treble approximates is that you can get them on course so why arent they available through agencies and on-line????????

Hi guys,

Many thanks for taking the time to check that info out, very much appreciated! After seeing how that worked, I took a second multi on the Railway Stakes/Fruit 'N' Veg stakes.

Belle Bizarre/Hartley's Dream. The first leg did the right thing by me, so now need Hartley's to salute on Saturday to land a $124 double - fingers crossed! H.D has been backed from $21 into $11 these last few days, so could be a good sign.

Welcome to the ever increasing stable Plunge Penguin
As with ROOBURGER, I will try and look after you for about 50 posts.
Moderators ECKY and PUNK ROOSTER whom I both know personally
are 2 really approachable lads and Im sure If you have any probs
feel free to Private message either or me if you like.
Some of the other rooms can get slightly personal + heated but in this room
I know That the Moderators keep a lid on things.
I have been warned for trolling at times

AS FOR THE ALL UP BET
The logic from the betting agencies is that if say a horse wins the Caulfield Cup then
that horse is in form, and the 2nd leg say the Melbourne Cup it is rated shorter odds.
I see the logic, but cant see the validity from the punters point of view.
Put it down to experience, although a explanation by the firm would be nice at the time.

Cheers, MAL

Thanks for that, Mal - cheers for the info, I'll keep an eye out

One flaw I have in the system - what if I wanted to back, for example, Perfect Promise to win the Goodwood/Adelaide Cup double? Realistically, I would expect about $10 or less on the Goodwood, but about $301 on the Adelaide Cup, because it isn't a stayer (I know this is not a realistic example, but hope you can see my point) - does that mean the Cup would automatically get reduced on the assumption that, if it wins the Goodwood, it should shorten for a race 2000m longer?

Sure does
Horses win or run well the Caulfield Cup over 2400m and win 3200m as well.
