Front-runners

Hi all,

Just wondering if any of the punters on here are into backing some of those bold front-running horses that really get the blood pumping and making races exciting?

By this, I mean ones like the old Queenslander, Maltese Beauty, that used to open up 40 length leads in many races and on some occasions, simply built too big a lead to be caught (used to puncture a few times too of course  ). I used to love the Adelaide (ex-NSW) runner, Power Plan in the mid 90's, that used to do the same thing, and would often hang on for a place or the odd win, with amazing displays, that would be nightmares for cameramen, trying to keep the whole field in shot?

Perth's Crying Game was another that used to set the pace, and would break opposition hearts, until its trainer, Angela Johnson, simply got far too greedy with the horse and used to race it much too often, until it broke down one day.

Everyone loves em PP, there is a horse in brissy called The Chanster, who his only a sprinter but has amazing gate speed so it just jumps and goes for home (would be the best horse in the world over 600) backed it melb cup day and thought it was home but got nutted on the line!!!

Schillaci

Have to agree with Wedgie on this one and I think we actually discussed it at lunch a couple of weeks back.

Always went to the front in the sprint races and held on. Won heaps of money on it in the early 90's.

Only started to worry when connections started running it over 1400, 1500m and it's winning margins got narrower and narrower. Still managed to get up by a head or a nose and I collected the $$$.

When I was knee high to a grasshopper in the 60's there was a frontrunning
sprinting champ called MANAHI who would lead at Cheltenham and on
straightening up would hit the outside fence.
I was way too young to bet, but sure as hell read the newspapers about MANAHI
and would alwAys look up the fields too see if it was running and then beg my brother
to take me to see the champ.

SCOTCH AND DRY
VO ROGUE
SUNLINE
MANIKATO[Manahi offspring]
DAMIEN CUPIDO

All great frontrunners

I dont mind backing the front runners at least you know where they will be in the run.

Also by being in front they dont have to worry about going around, inside, in between or get stuck behind other horses!!!!!!!!!!!
