Sprint/Cheat Lane

Could someone please give me an explanation on this rule?
What are the penalties if you don't "open it up" (if that's how it works?)
When was it introduced & why?

SPRINT LANE/CHEAT LANE!!!!!!!

well we need BAYMAN for this.

Its been around for a while now, but I believe that NSW and WA are the only states that dont have them.

I believe that the sprint lane cant be used until the home straight the final time and also you cant put your horse into that position if it isnt making ground. The horse that is leading on the rail cant use the sprint lane it is only for horses behind the leader.

God knows why it was introduced, probably to allow more average horses a chance at winning. It allows weak horses at the beginning of a race to go to the lead and then hand up to the fav or a horse that will get it to the sprint lane.

not sure on the penalties we need SCD and BAYMAN for that.

it was intoruced to give more hoses a chance of winning.... and gaining a run.... I seem to see it happen all the time at Albion Park....behind the leader shoots thru on the inside.... has to be in everywhere or out everywhere.... not here a ne there....

The sprint lane makes a mockery of racing at tracks like Gawler trots.
Gawler is a leaders track and they win a huge % of races compared to other tracks.
The only horses that can mostly run down leaders have to be in first 3 coming into the straight.
So to have a sprint lane there makes it even more difficult for horses coming from behind
the first 3 on the turn.
I dislike them intensly as do most punters, so the states that have adopted them are
not endearing patronage at thier race meetings.

SCD actually loves the Sprint lane, it makes for easier punting and making better decisions - there is nothing worse then watching a horse get buried on the fence and never get out..
Was introduced about 5 - 6 years ago from memory because they have them in America and NZ.... also to try and stimulate turnover - through more horses having a chance to win and less getting held up...
The rules are very simple.. there is a red marker at the top at the straight and horses (other then the leader) can go inside at that peg on the last lap...
If horses go there a lap early they get suspended and the horse should be disqualified = unless in SA where they give you a 6 weeks suspension for this (12 - 18 in other states) and don't disqualify the horse..
If the leader goes into the lane and doesn't get corrected by the driver it can be protested against and relegated behind the horses that protested.. which is the way it should be!!

all of the above but i personally dont like it as it gets drivers making interesting decisions at times (tactics wise) although the best tactic i've seen used was by peter rixon on decisive in the vic derby last year he drew 1 with enzedder drawn 8 (on its back) so he handed up & put the other horse out of business & sprint laned & won great tactical drive but if there was no cheat lane it would've been a better 'race' plus when doing form you now have to allow the horse 3 back a lot more of a chance to at least place but as the drivers (good ones) do you adjust your tactics & punting to suit the rules in place

i can see a interdominion winner cheatlaning & winning when the others have worked in the run

as for when it started well here in adelaide they put the pegs & sprint lane in straight after the last interdominion (won by our sir vancelot) & was used the very next week after the final
