MALS GREYHOUND INVOLVEMENT EARLY DAYS
-----------------------------------------------------

Used to live at Athol Park and when I was 14 had a girlfriend in the Angle pk
area near the dog track.
We used to meet at the dog track and sneak in for the first few races, until I
rode my pushbike back home about 8-30
In 1974 I used to ride to every meeting and loved getting guys to put
my bets on.
In those days my favourite dogs were Jaybee Queen, Tara Pine trained by
Noel Penley, a swooper called Woobera and the best dog I ever saw until
Brett Lee and Dyna Utah raced, a dog called Bristol Sue trained by the best
trainer ever Doug Payne.
In 74 I watched Bristol Sue win the Adelaide Cup, my idol got up, I was hooked.

Some of my other favorites in the 70/80s were
Just Biddy
Danyos Appeal
Thundering two[won the 85 adelaide cup]
Superstar
Encanto
Palmerston Lass
Campus Cutie
Bayroad Queen
Bold Trease[4 sandown cups in 4 years]
Ascapella Miss
Red Flag
Ibrox
Fabeys First
Eaglehawk Star
Scenic Spa
African Zulu
Taj Rossi[nearly bought it in 85 but travelled the world instead, it won 3 derbys!]
Temlee
Miss Colorado
Titus
Julep

And my favourite was Tara Pine, it would jump last and show explosive pace to lead by
the first turns, it won about 11 in a row at one stage, whatta dog.

A few Interstaters there but a lot of SA star dogs
It was a grand era of SA greyhound racing.
There were about 30 bookies in the 70's at Angle pk , how things have changed.
The complex was run by Howard Ashton, when he left racing demised.
And as for that girlfriend in 1972......

PREVIEW
----------

R1-3 DAKOTA BIRD in quins+ exactas
R6-7 TAMALA PARK just keeps winning
R10-3 SIDE EFFECTS in quins + exactas
r11-2 RUGGED LEE has form 777 but from this draw might lead + win at juicy odds

Good luck all, ahh the good ol' days.

Tipping them with form 777 - MAL is on fire - that is a bloody good effort.. definately much better then picking them with form of 111 at $1.30 - well done MAL...
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined
