POTTING VICtorian racetracks

A very big and reserved punter recently went to Victoria and frequented the tracks.
Trots went to Moonee Valley and was stunned that with all the space available how
they crammed the Bookies and Punters in one room.
He was appalled that on Interdominion heat night that the only food outlet was
the cafeteria which was understaffed.
He was disgusted that he lined up for about 30 minutes for a feed.
He said food outlets for SA heats was far superior to Victoria.
Sausages in bread $6
Pies + pasties $4
Chips $4
Drinks way too expensive.
Enterance fee was $10

The same punter potted the other tracks for admission fees
Kilmore trots $15 admission
Stawell races $15 admission on a sunday. [-X

$15 bucks for provincial meetings #-o
You would be better watching a GIDGET movie, especially the one with the Big KAHUNA

$15 admission KILMORE + STAWELL
FREE in pubs
FREE on tv
FREE in tabs

CARPARKS $5 :?:
FREE in pubs
FREE in your driveway
FREE in you tab carpark

SAUSAGE IN BREAD $6
About $0-75 cents on your BBQ

BEER $5 a stubbie
$1-20 each approx if you buy a carton from the pub.

CHIPS $4 for a small cup
$4 in a fish shop can feed a family

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Charging high prices for food is acceptable as food is perishable.
To charge $5 + for a stubby is robbery as beer as we all know can last
in a fridge for a long long long long long long long time if need be.
Same as soft drinks.

Mal - I think you are on to something here...

These clubs are dying and they don't know why = it's too damn expensive to go there.. $15 to get in and $15 for some food - for someone like me that's a bet in the first race.. why would I want to spend the $30 for food and entry.... when I can stay at home, bet on the net (without having to deal with incompetent tab staff)...

ABOUT 90% OF ALL PUNTERS THAT I HAVE INTERVIEWED OVER THE YEARS HAVE SAID
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ones who dont attend that I have asked have said these main reasons

ADMISSION
EXPENSIVE FOOD
INCONVIENIENT [due to TAB-PUB-TV]
INTERNET BETTING

And I guess now BETFAIR as well these days.

Some attend still because of BOOKMAKERS

i was with mal when this was told to us, but mal forgot to add that they replayed the first race over & over again with the sound up high & there was no sound on the live races beaming in from all over australia, this was at kilmore (i think)

Yeah - Globe Derby with 1 bookmaker and I remember someone sitting there on a Monday telling me what the odds would be before they were put up.. each time 250 - 300% was bet.. really worth going to the track for that..

I love going to watch the trots (even though I'm a tote punter) but $15 to get in and these prices have turned me away.. I would rather go the pub and put on more bets with it!!

I went to Geelong on new years eve for the trots.. walked away when it was $25 to get in with no fireworks..

SCD you are not a scab, and neither are the thousands of others
who have stopped going.
$25 new years eve at Geelong

BAYMAN as for that club replaying the local races with volume instead of interstate races
when racing live.......a promotion for Silent movies perhaps :?:

Thanks Mal - I don't mind parting with my money.. but even I have my limits.. $25 is a joke - I wasn't the only one walking away when we saw the price and signs with no fireworks...

Stupid $25 It might have been OK for irregulars for a one night stand
BUT it was stupid treating the bread and butter regular locals who just
wanted to have a bet.

I just cant for the life of me work out how much out of touch racing admins
are with the crowd attendees.
They get exhorbitantly paid for little results.

$25- entry is cheap for NYE Mal...try to just go to a pub and it will cost you $30- to walk through the door

well i try my best to avoid having to pay entrance fee which is why I dont go anymore because the fees are too high.

$9 to go the races and as BAYMAN alluded to under the 'VIC PARK racing' thread that they had only 10 or so people that paid to get in.

for $9 I can go to my local pub and get a counter meal and sit in the air-con comfort and relax.

Most punters go to a racecourse to GAMBLE, and to pay $25 is an invasion
of thier entertainment.
Imagine paying $25 to bet in your TAB that night beacuse its 31/12

Anyways paying $15 or $25 for a race meeting is proposterous.

SCD/BAYMAN/MT79/MAL all hate paying admission fees, not because we are scabs,
but because we are insulted, the commissions on our on course TAB investments are
a handsome equity for the clubs.

As an example BAYMAN /MAL would turnover about $2k a night at GDP on the on course
TAB, that would be about $200 in commissions to the race club.
Why charge us, insult us, and make us eventually turn our backs on the club for a $5 admission.

MT79 a racecourse regular of the past now sits home on his TAB net accounts + Betfair
who dont ask for an admission fare.

Im sorry DUTCHY but the $25 as a disgrace and an insult to punters.
That $25 may stop SCD from going again, or at best not encourage him to go on course again.

And $15 to go to a provincial race meeting in Victoria is the pits

agree normally but this is NYE Mal...I think even the hard nose punters wouldnt seriously punt on that night, they would be looking for entertainment...do we know what they offered on course apart from "no fireworks?"

I would like to see all racing opened to the public for free...they might be suprised how much the turnover will go up

The trots in SA and I guess VIC are made up of people 40+ years old.
I would say 75% of all people at the trots are middle to old aged.
DUTCHY unless THE PLATTERS and LITTLE PATTIE were there it would be boring for them.

In November when it was Christmas party time I distinctly remember there being a big marque on the lawns there with young people everywhere, DJ, lights, dancing etc....they had a huge crowd, dare say the same thing was arranged for NYE

DUTCHY go to GDP
MONDAY ARVOS
FRIDAY NIGHTS
GDP 90% OFF ALL MEETINGS[excluding Interdom/cup meetings]

You will see 80% males and nearly all of them will not be young people.
YOUNG PEOPLE WENT IN THE 70/80/9Os but not now.
