Footy betting contest anyone?

Lads...after the success of the Spring Racing Comp run by the great Sheik, Im thinking its time we put our reputations on the line with a footy punting comp.

Im happy to run it and collate all the results, heres the rules Im thinking of -

2 bets per weekend either AFL or SANFL or both.

A 2 Unit Bet and a 1 Unit Bet so obvioulsy your 2 unit bet is your bet of the weekend. Challenge will be to be on the right side of the ledger over the full season.

You must quote the Odds of the bet and where you got them from (for verification purposes) e.g.

Adelaide Crows -13.5 v Power
2 Units @ $1.91 Centrebet

Bet types accepted are Win, Line, Margin (1-39, 40+),,,no multis

Ill arrange a prize of some sort to make it worthwhile...

Who is in?...expressions of interest only at this stage...

PITY YOU DIDNT DO THIS LAST YEAR
MALS record was 18 bets 17 winners.

Count me in, what prize am I going to win

SUGGESTIONS
------------------

AFL SPORTSBET odds as we all have access to it.
SANFL THORNTON as we can use the paper odds friday morning

We should use CENTREBET/BETFAIR/COMPLETE SPORTS who offer better
odds but are far less accessable.

If subscribers fail to put a tip in for that week they should automatically
go on the opposite to my 2 unit bet so they will be on a loser
Seriously no tip should be even for the round.

My tips for the comp.
1 MAL
2 BAYMAN
3 THE FIELD

If we have access to this site we all have access to all the bookies mentioned, you dont need to have an account with them to get the odds...I say if you get better odds then good luck to you...what are others thoughts?

If you dont post for a round you lose 3 units, that way it will be fair for those that post every week...

only have to work out the divvies if its a winner!...a spreadsheet should do the trick

you could back everything Mal backs for the season and then in the last round try to beat him!!!

Im also going to contact a few bookies to see if I can get some sort of sponsorship, subject to Wedgie's OK, Ive been in a comp on another site where bookies will give free bets for weekly winners and then an end of season prize....

bottom line if you are keen express you interest below so i can show them the exposure they would get!!

Good onya Dutchy.

Couple of points.

If you go with ''any betting site'' options the members will have to cut & paste their bets with the date clearly noted. Your task would be easier to just keep it to one betting site.
You'll have to set out the rules clearly, this comp will be a tad more complex than the spring comp.
Is 3 units enough ''punishment'' for a miss ? Punk was clearly disadvantaged v the absentees even though in the spirit of the comp he selected every week albeit bringing up the rear most rounds.
My opinion only, but a 6pm Friday night shut off time ( most weeks)will make your job a lot easier than ''betting on the run''.

After all that remember, it's your baby & your doing all the legwork so whatever you decide goes.

Good luck with it, & yep, I'm in.

well ill jump on board!!!!

I do like Sheiks idea on the 6pm closing time and the cut-pasting of bet prices.

DUTCHY - good luck getting sponsorhip out of the local bookies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thansk for the indications lads, its a goer...although I dont know if Ill get any bookie support, but Ill give it a try...if not Ill put up a Carton of beer or Voucher to the value of $40-, winners choice....

Might keep it to TAB Sportsbet, Centrebet and the 2 local bookies to keep it simpler for me to verify odds quoted, Im hoping all can be trusted not to quote inflated prices or lines, but I should be able to verify movements through a couple of internet sites that track prices/line fluctuations.

Will need to have a cut off Im thinking 12 noon Saturday as this gives those a chance to still put their tips in if they miss the Friday night game(s), obviously cant tip these games!

Anyway stay tuned...
