every week is the same with nominations being extended to fill up fields.
take a look at gawler on tues only 9 races
3 full fields
3 with only 6 runners.
2 reserves for the whole meeting.
a mixed grade 2/3/4 and only 6 runners!!!
the quality of dogs here now is disgusting and my money stays in my pocket.
we are lucky to have 50 greyhounds of any merit going around.
my dogs are not champions but they chase and are bred here (ex riverlee gal)
why would i bet on an animal which can,t break 32 secs at gawler and 31 at angle?
oh and wednesday has also been extended. suprise
the only way back is to increase prize money and facilities.
and we all know that won,t happen!
sorry about the rant but i,m getting a bit sick of it!
any way we have some great chances for sundays gawler meeting and hope to jag a few wins!

i agree with you ROO.

along with a few experts in the field, such as trainers/owners and our own KF, it seems like the WHEELER factor has caused the greatest amount of pain for the greyhound club.

WHEELER has millions of useless 400m pigs that race here, he is happy to take our prizemoney, but he wont do anything to support the industry such as sponsoring a race!!!!!!!!!!!

would tuesdays gawler meeting having the lack of noms have anything to do with the fact that strath are racing at gawler on sunday???

ive noticed recently that the fields at gawler have slowly dropped away and we are getting more 7 dog fields!!!!!

do you like the idea of wednesday mornings for the industry? Or do you believe that if a greyhound has to race on a wednesday to claim prizemoney of any sort or to just get a race start then it would be better of in a hole in the ground?

with wednesday mornings, im thinking it wouldnt be worthwhile, given the calibre of dog racing and that is reflected in the amount that is in the pools.

PRIZEMONEY you are right that wont increase, if you were able to read KENNEL CAPERS for this weeks issue you will read how great an effort it was by the club, to start making ground on the $324,000 they lossed in wagering revenue during last years downturn which was CAUSED by the Sky Channel/TVN dispute!!!!!!! and while the dispute was going on 'prizemoney levels were retained during that period'.

well surely with the prizemoney you cant take anymore away, the next thing they will do is that the other trainers will have to pay the prizemoney out of their pockets!!!!!!!!!

MAL had a good suggestion with prizemoney and a way to keep the money floating around in SA instead of going back into WHEELERS bank account!!!!!!!!!!

I hope MAL can remind us all of exactly what it is, I can only remember parts of it, something to do with reducing prizemoney levels right down low and have high incentives for SA BRED greyhounds, to try and get the breeding industry back up and running.

I had a thought about moving wednesdays program to a monday or thursday twilight, start at 3:30 or so and let it run in with the night meeting, you would end up with close to 19 races!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or another thought was to maybe have wendesdays meeting moved to gawler on a tuesday and have 18 races, or transfer gawler to angle park on the tuesday for the same amount of races!!!!!!!!

the industry are trying to attract owners etc, but do they really do enough??????

im annoyed at the industry about the EMERLEY CARLOS fiasco, which i mentioned in the thread for last nights meeting, how can they not know a dog was not allowed to race in a certain grade because it won a race in a higher grade at ANGLE PARK 3 weeks before the race happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALI left basketball bankrupt and the dogs arent looking good either.

im guessing ALI will look forward to the gold coast retirement villages soon.

some good points MT, it is a joke with whats going on.
they will be too far down the shit hole before they realize what damage they have done.
not being cocky but i used to turn over $4ooo a month on wagering(i keep records even though they look ugly sometimes ) i,m now down to $1500 at most.
i have increased my betting in vic and tas by 40% and have been rewarded by better payouts and racing standard(form stands up )
we are looking at racing in horsham soon but will see whats happening with the young dogs as a few have not come on as we would have liked.
we will review at the end of march.

Now I turnover about $5k a year
I now invest the big $$$$ at the trots.

That idea about promoting SA bred dogs was mentioned by me to a comittee
member who thought it was a very good notion.

Imagine all races are grade 5s in a 10 race programme
80 greyhounds in action
all races $1,000 each p/money...1st 700 2nd 200 3rd 100
I would make all 10 races $900 p/m and $600 to the winner of the race[not $700]
$1000 extra in a pool
When a SA BRED dog wins it gets part of the pool

eg FOR $1000 POOL
10 SABRED dogs win =$100 each
5 SABREDdogs win = $200 each
1 SABRED dog wins = $1000

= SABRED gEt more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for winning

Monday Night TAB- Gawler
Thursday Night TAB- Angle Park
Sunday 1 & 3- Strathalbyn
Sunday 2- Port Pirie
Sunday 4- Whyalla/Pt Augusta (alternate)

Win a Sunday race, you get a run at Gawler TAB
Win a Gawler TAB race, you get a run at Angle Park
3 consecutive unplaced, you drop back from Angle Park to Gawler, or Gawler back to country (Sunday meetings)
Week starts on a Sunday- if your dog races Sunday, it can't race until next sun at minimum (7 days), or following Thursday at maximum (11 days), dogs will be fresh & not over-raced, & likely to be race fit (not carrying injuries).
If your dog is injured, you may scratch from Gawler & AP knowing that when the dog is fit, you will keep your "city" priviledges

Benefits-
Improved prizemoney (would almost double), due to half the races being run
10 dogs nominated per race
Improved quality of fields

both good ideas that should be developed further. the only problem is the admin which get paid an enormous amount of money for very little output wouldnt like the idea

a) because they didnt think of it

b) it would be too hard for them to comprehend

interesting to note that in todays advertiser and CRAIG COOKS exclusive that strath are looking at a 3 way venture with all codes at one track!!!!!!!!!!! BRILLIANT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!
