2007 SAFooty AFL/SANFL Punting Competition Rules

Postby Dutchy » Mon Mar 26, 2007 9:55 am

Alright lads let get this thing happening.

As mentioned you get 3 Units to bet with over 2 bets per weekend (AFL & SANFL)...if you dont have your bets recorded by 1-40pm on Saturday's you will be recorded as having lost 3 Units. late comers are more than welcome to join but you will be down 3 units per round you have missed.

Bet can be placed as Win, Line or Margin (no Draws) and prices can be obtained from -

http://www.tabonline.com.au

http://www.thorntonsportsbet.com.au

http://www.completesportsbetting.com.au

You DONT need to have an account with these bookies to access the latest odds, just click on the link above and follow your nose and there is no need to actually place a bet on your selections.

Example -

2 Units Adelaide -13.5 @ $1.90
1 Unit Norwood Win @ $2.40

Each entrant can have up to 5 "No bet" weeks where they will not lose 3 units HOWEVER they will need to still post "No Bets this week" to get the exemption.

Your 2 bets can be AFL and/or SANFL, no need to have 1 of both. No Multibets

There will be a new thread for each week raised on Mondays to lodge your tips and I will post the opening odds as a guide, please check the odds/lines are still current prior to recording your bets. I will update the prices on the thread as much as I can as the week progresses.

Winner will receive a $40- voucher of their choice donated by myself (Grog, Myer, Sports etc etc). Wedgie did mention he might throw a prize in also.

Who can get the best prices? Who can show a profit over the season? Anyway it will be a bit of fun and we will have the inaugural 2007 SAFooty punting champ crowned by the end of the season

Good luck

I still reckon this would cause problems - how can you prove if someone saw Richmond at $2.80 on Centrebet at 1:38 Saturday just before the game starts at 1:40, when they had been $2.50 or less with every bookie before then :?:

Since Mal and co are so in love with "paper odds", my suggestion would be to just use the odds printed in Friday's Advertiser (assuming Thorntons SANFL odds appear there). Then everything is clear and simple, and you will probably attract more punters due to the simplicity of it. True, it removes the skill of shopping around all week for the best odds, but I for one, don't have time to continually check odds, so I would be less likely to enter if it was kept so open like that.

Just my 2c worth...

Also, are punters allowed to "edit" their bets if they see a better price later in the week? This shouldn't be allowed - just like if you put on a bet with a bookie on Tuesday, you can't take it back later!

But how do you prove if someone deletes a post of their initial bets, and later puts up another one?
The more I think about it, the more difficult it will be to police - and when monetary prizes are involved, people will be tempted to bend the rules as far as they are allowed...

It really has to be Friday paper odds or some other set odds.

Paper odds no good for those of us who dont live in sunny Adelaide, not going to go and pay $5.20 for Fridays Advertiser on Saturday afternoon

I'm sure someone can put them up on the site on Friday mornings.

Fair point Ecky, and feel free to use the paper odds in Fridays paper as they will just match what is on the websites, I think its importnat that if a punter sees a good price come out on Monday they can lock it in that day for the weekend ahead, then they get the advantage if it firms...and there will be no editing of tips, if you have made a genuine error you let me know and post again, you cant change just to get better odds...

What I will do Ecky is post the prices from tabonline, centrebet and Curly/Thorton and the lines and update them at least once a day on the weekly thread, that way those who dont want to look around can just refer to them.

There are some websites around that tell me the best price that was bet on a game so I can confirm that way or just ring the bookie if sus...I guess Im hoping most will be honest here, any unusual price will be investigated..

Hope the above will help you join....costs nothing to enter so join the fun

BTW if anyone knows how to post things so they line up correctly on here let me know!! e.g.

TAB Centrebet
Adelaide $1.38 $1.40
Essendon $3.25 $$3.20

Another question:

I'm not sure about the rule where you have to bet each week, or you lose 3 units. Part of the skill of being a good punter is learning to wait for the right bet. What if you don't believe that any odds are good value one week?

Can the two bets be on AFL or SANFL (when it starts) only, or does it need to be one from each competition?

Either/or WCP doesnt matter

Ecky - I will allow 5 "No Bet" weekends for each punter should they choose to use them, you will need to still post "No Bets this week" to get this exemption from losing 3 Units...from next week there will be 12 games each weekend to find 2 bets, seems reasonable to me

have added the above to the top post...any other questions so we can get it all sorted out before the start?

Good idea, Dutchy, I was going to suggest something similar myself. :)

Although, what about if we only punt 1 or 2 of our 3 credits in any week?

Ecky - you have to have 2 bets a 2 unit and a 1 unit, no partial betting.

Alrigh as per the other Week 1 thread Ive deleted the Centrebet option. Tabonline and now offering $1.90 lines so Im more comfortable using them....hope this makes things simpler
