Don't 6 out of the starting 7 girls from the Australian netball team play for Sydney? And didn't they go through the whole year undefeated last year? They should clean up again I would have thought?

If the $26 was still on offer about the Firebirds, I would take it. A very good, improving group, particularly with Carla Dzwoki returning from injury. If Joanne Morgan can keep firing for them, they have the real potential to cause their share of upsets.

Sydney WAY too short at $1.30. For that matter, the TBirds look good at the $4.50.

Perth Orioles v Canberra Darters: Not exactly one for the masses, with 6th playing 7th, but should be a close match throughout. The Darters are still gelling as a group, but Perth are capable of scoring the odd upset during the year. The formline is actually a little stronger for Canberra - lost few admirers with a 7 goal losses to Sydney last start - but home leans toward Perth in a close one.
PERTH: 3-5

Hunter Jaegers v Melbourne Phoenix: The league's hottest team (see attached) http://www.netball.asn.au/_uploads/res/31_1849.jpg :
looks wise (!) face the Phoenix in an intriguing clash. Hunter were brought back to earth hard by the Thunderbirds last week in a 17 goal thrashing, while Melbourne breezed through their game against Perth for a road trip win.
Hunter is improving under Jon Fletcher's coaching, and are playing a more attacking style. The signs are there for them, but any team boasting Sharelle McMahon, Bianca Chatfield and Natasha Chokljat around the court is very hard to stop. Phoenix to prevail after some scares
MELBOURNE: 5-7

Adelaide Thunderbirds v Queensland Firebirds: The battle of the birds travels to Adelaide, with the home team in sound form. A routine win over Hunter last week, despite the continued mystifying form loss of Australian rep Kristen Hughes (nee Heinrich - possibly "honeymoon legs"?), gave Tania Obst her first win as coach. Queensland thumped the Kestrels in a 15 point win that made a bold statement to the competition about their legitimacy as a contender this year. Expect this to be a close one throughout, particularly if Hughes is missing this week, and the upset is not out of the question. The loss of TBird skipper and Australian rep Laura VonBertouch should be offset by the impressive Kirby Mutton and get the locals home though.
ADELAIDE: 4-6

Melbourne Kestrels v Sydney Swifts: The Kestrels have had a terrible start to the season after so much promise pre-season, and need to start getting some points in the bank to turn it around. The Swifts, however, have their own troubles, with 5 stars heading off to national duty. Take Liz Ellis, Susan Pratley, Catherine Cox, Selina Gilesnan and Mo'onia Gerrard out of any team and their depth will be tested. This may be enough for the young Kestrels to pull off the big upset.
MELBOURNE: 4-6

Hopefully steered a few people into some dollars with those selections - I may stand corrected,, but I believe the Kestrels were about $3.00 at the jump and won well. The Darters win threw most netball people; they were at +12.5 in that game. I threw them into a multi at those odds, but got blown out by Hunter losing by 2 more than the + option (can forgive them for being great lookers  ).

Terrible blow for the Thunderbirds with Mutton going down. Hopefully its not too bad, as she is one of the most promising players in the country at the moment. It looked bad on TV, but may not be as much damage as first thought.

Will endeavour to do a preview each week, and update when the odds come out with value selections.
