Netball - Round 6 Preview (more value!)

Don't know if anyone is actually reading these :-k , but last week, the preview provided 3 winners from 5 games; with two of those winners being correct margin, within the two goal range always quoted. Hunter fans snapped up the $2.45 on offer for their win, but Sydney's decline still bamboozles most punters. Will this be the week they return?

SYDNEY v PERTH

Well...to answer that last statement: yes. This week, in fact. Sydney have played fairly ordinary the last few weeks, with some very tired Aus reps fronting against the Phoenix last week, but they could go into this game without any of their Aust contingent and still win. Perth simply don't have the class against the Swifts. Expect a short price, and this could get very ugly. Sydney $1.04, Perth $7.50 for my odds

SYDNEY 18-20 goals

ADELAIDE THUNDERBIRDS v MELBOURNE PHOENIX

Could this be the Grand Final preview? What a belter of a match at ETSA Park this promises to be. The T-Birds smacked the daylights out of Perth last week with a 29 goal shellacking, as the Von Bertouch sisters slipped effortlessly back into the lineup, while Georgia Beaton had a run to build the experience. The Phoenix were stunning against the Swifts, with Sharelle McMahon having a blinder with 38/40, and Natasha Chokljat was impassible through centre.

A real flip of the coin job, but will just lean toward the T-Birds in a thriller. Punters should look very carefully at the odds on this: I'd have it Adelaide: $1.83 (-0.5), Melbourne $1.88 (+0.5) at best, so will look with interest on Friday to see what transpires

ADELAIDE 1-2 goals

QUEENSLAND FIREBIRDS v HUNTER JAEGERS

A very intriguing encounter looming here. Queensland pushed the Swifts to a goal last week, but that form was pushed out the door a little two days later. Joanne Morgan has been brilliant again this week, which is masking Carla Dziwoki's overall form slump. Hunter were brave against the Kestrels before going down by 5, after a slightly unconvincing win over the Darters two nights earlier. Their deep bench, illustrated by being able to leave Lara Welham off until half time against the Kestrels, will give coach Jon Fletcher plenty of options.

The home team to just sneak home in a tight one. Expecting QLD at $1.68, Hunter $2.15 at this stage.

QLD: 2-4 goals

CANBERRA DARTERS v MELBOURNE KESTRELS

Canberra at home are always fairly tough, but the Melbourne represent a different kestrel of fish here. Their general versatility around the court suggests a Melbourne win. Would be thinking Melbourne $1.30, Canberra $3.20 would reflect where they are at.

MELB 8-10 goals

Good luck, punters.

TAB Sportsbet, Dutchy. As this is their first year fielding on it, they are still prone to some errors, particularly on points in. At least one punter I know had a very healthy win on Canberra at the points in of +16.5 some weeks back (they actually won head to head too, I might add)

Hmmm so there are upsets?...I was thinking this might be one sport that is farily predictable

Centrebet have been betting on it for a couple of years...might be worth checking their prices also

There's certainly been their share of upsets this year: the Darters in that game were $10.00 for the win: most bookies would have cheered the Swifts getting rolled last week; Perth won at $7.00 some weeks back also. There is value to be found with it at this stage. The team to watch (and yes, most readers here will know my thoughts on them :) http://www.netball.asn.au/_uploads/res/31_1849.jpg) are Hunter - starting to gel nicely now and will cause more upsets as the year rolls on.

I just had a look - thanks for the heads up, Dutchy - if people are really putting money on the Swifts to win the whole tournament at $1.62, they have more money than sense. Adelaide at $3.60 makes a much better proposition for mine.

Lara Welham (back row, third from left) and Courtney Tairi (back row, third from right)...enough to abjectly distract me from what the scoreline is anytime :D

Tell you what, lads - having had a good look through the markets, the relative draws, form, players available etc, I keep coming back to the same thing: The Thunderbirds are fantastic value for the flag. At the $3.50 on offer on TAB Sportsbet, I reckon we'll put $50 on them now, before it winds in further.

They are adapting beautifully under Tania Obst, playing a slightly more attacking style; they are playing very well with Kristen Hughes right out of form - when she gets her run back, the attack of her and Natalie Medhurst, with Amanda Martin rotating through, will be very hard to stop. Speedy midcourt with the Von Bertouch sisters, and rock solid defence.

Just a tip, lads, before it winds in a bit.

Just waiting for the markets, Dutchy, and will then put up some tips. Had a thought about the Swifts game though: if I could get $1.04, I'd nearly take that, because I reckon it will be more like $1.01-1.02; Perth should be about $13.00, in reality.
