Greyhound trainer Ian Mchugh has lost his battle with cancer last week.
Ian is known in recent years for racing the Norwood named dogs.
This is hard for me as I often had chats with Ian and we discussed his
dogs and our beloved redlegs
Ian has been training for a long time and will surely be missed.
The greyhound industry has lost one of its favourite sons
I believe the funeral will be at Enfield 13/06/07 at about 2-45.
I will miss him.

EMERLEY CARLOS

Had a trial at Albion Park last week and ran a scintillating time
The middle split was electrifying and believed to be in the fastest top 5
times ever taken at the track.
He is racing R11-2
The youngSTAR is being set for the QLD derby.

THE TRACK CONDITION

My abstinance is short lived as the word is the track is nearlly back to norMAL.
Trackman Bulldog informs me by next week it will be very close to 100%
Trackman B is happy that its been resolved much quicker than expected
Thats great news.

Interesting that there might be some fireworks int he next month in Greyhound circles....talking to someone close to the scene it seems SA is the only state not paying an appearance fee and with the proposed increases in prizemoney there is still not going to be this concession....might only be a little bit $20-??? but its important to cover costs as not many trainers live close to the track...will trainers boycott SA races again???.thoughts???

The appearance money is $$$ paid for taking a dog/dogs to a racetrack
It was abolished about 2-3 years ago and I think it was about $15 to $25 at the time.
I think it was discarded because people like Collins/Rasmussen would cart 20 dogs each to a meeting and get $400 in appearance $$$
I reckon they changed the $$$ to a minumun amount so whether you had 1 dog or 20 dogs
you only got the one payment[about $15-$25]

The projection for prizemoney as about 14% more per race
Low grade races= about $150 more top grade races = about $300 more.
With those rises surely as Dutchy said an appearance $$ could be given and perhps a 10-12%
raise in stakemoney ?

WHEELER would be licking his lips he gets the increase in prizemoney and hes not a trainer
Appearance $$$ is needed to keep $$$ in SA

If appearance money is introduced it should only be introduced with a cap of some description.

As mal said you dont want people earning a wage by bringing a stack of (possibly uncompetitive, depends on the trainer) flex taxi's to the mutts

as MAL had mentioned the appearance money got quashed, due to the big trainers having 20-30 runners per night. Collins was saying that they needed the appearance money to help cover costs of the dogs.

I like the rule that Kulpara came up with and that was no trainer could have anymore then 2 per race................that got rid of wheeler owned dogs.

well the club is expecting $1m to spend at the end of the month and the closer the day comes, the less they want to talk about pumping it back into prizemoney, maybe appearance money will come back........

Have to feel sorry for Ken Mcauley, Lasers Force had spiderbite and was out for 8 weeks, had 2 runs back, for a 2nd and near last. Now the owners have changed to Troy Murray. Kens record with this dog is exceptional. Has anyone else heard this? Comments?

hadnt heard that, but maybe the owners are linking in with the Murrays because they will probably be heading west in the near future and maybe the owners want Lasers Force racing in the west, and the Murrays have a good strike rate when they get runners into finals......

It's what trainers want and need.
But Greyhound Racing SA's move to drop Whyalla off of their financial support lists to create extra money for the state's races is very stupid.
Whyalla trainer Andy Peden had the only SA dog- Strathisla Lass - in last year's Adelaide cup.
Yet he can't train his dogs locally anymore, and the closest track is in Port Augusta.
The administrative debacle that is Greyhound Racing SA will effectively end the country races and their trainers along with it.
Shame really.
Typical case of the wrong people at the top.

but the BENTLEY report suggests that the greyhound admin is the best of the 3 codes - why?????because they dont put money back into the industry via prizemoney...........

mind you Peter Ali left basketball as a basket case with no money and broke, maybe the dogs will end up the same way, but he will walk with money lining his clothes all the way to the gold coast sipping on lattes and cocktails........and not giving a f..k about the SA GREYHOUNDS!!
