yes thats right the old champ sokyola returns to globe derby on saturday night in a 'farewell to the champ' race, for those that dont know sokyola started his australian career in adelaide, he has drawn poorly though in gate 10 he is in race 2 & its over 1800 metres it runs at 6.25 pm, everyone remotely interested should make the journey & have a look at him in the flesh for the last time.

and i'd take the $4.20 about Zerrafoss and wouldn't touch Sokyola @ $1.30....
SCD Market on the race would be about the mark of 127%... with only 3 winning chances...
Baron Land $26
Stand Asquire $51
Iontheball $51
Sunrise Music Man $26
Smashin Sampras $41
Fire and Brimstone $11
Sky King $201
Zerrafoss $3.50
Brother Moon $4.50
Sokyola $1.90

I might be being generous with the $1.90 - and I know you are an excellent form student and price assessor Mal, but i'll outline why i'd have him that price below.... His form is clearly superior then the rest of these average ffa horses, but barrier 10 over 1800m isn't easy coming around the entire field...

My views on Sokyola are it now needs to draw the front row, where it can find the front and get an easy run... I think it's quite sad to see an absolute champion like Sokyola race until he drops basically.. he is running on heart and class only and it's nothing but a really sad end to an excellent career.
159 starts for 76 wins a 47% win strike rate..
last 2 seasons 31 starts for 5 wins a 16% strike rate
this season 14 starts for 1 win a 7% win strike rate..

This is an oportunity for the local horses to beat a champion and they won't give it to him easily.. I don't think he's as effective off the fence and I don't think the breeze will be up for grabs that easily, so he's either working hard to the breeze or he's going to be 3 wide without cover a long way from home in my book... makes horses like Brother Moon and Zerrafoss (if fit and sound) a good e/w chance in the race...
shows the decline in a champion as his battle weary legs can't carry him at the highest level anymore.

I'd love for him to prove me wrong and win the race... you will hear me cheering for him from over in melbourne.. i'd love to see him go out a winner - but not sure he can do it anymore...

Quite obviously i'm suggesting it's a very generous price, but it's the price I want or need to back him, not a price i'm offering - in my view he's one huge risk this weekend.. rate him on current form - not on past acheivements and he's struggling to win from the barrier..

The point I was trying to make is - I will be backing against him at a ridiculous price that he will be because of public support, rather then current form.

I don't back overs on all horses in a race, but I do my odds I want/need to back them and won't back them below that price except in multis...

The race desperately needs Sherwood Ralph to really give it some glitz and glamour.

Anyone laying Sokyola in that field should have their heads examined the horse is obviously racing well below par but c'mon this is like dropping back from M4 or better front to M0 class, be realistic he's a 1/10 shot. Would win even with some of these legends on board............. L. Parker, M. Aurora, Matthew Smith, D. Kelton, G. Turner, P. Westbury, Chips Lambert!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Im a bit confused
I think Saturday night will be free admission.
If thats the case Im a bit stunned.
We have the re-appearance of arguably the best horse in SA in Zerrafos
and we have brought over Sokyola for opposition and its free admission ?
I would personally have paid $10 to go and watch these 2 magnificent
pacers in action.

Jeremy Seal, owner driver of Zerrafos has made a very considerate offer.
He will donate 5% of any prizemonies won by Zerrafos on Saturday night
towards community radio station 5RPH as a donation.
5RPH leaders in Trotting, Greyhound and Sanfl footy do an absolutely brilliant
job in promoting the 3 codes.
Donations can be made by ringing 8231-1197, a very worthy cause.
The trotting shows with Tee, DB, and Scotty are great.

Im a Sokyola fan, but Im gunna be hoping the local champ Zerrafos can win.

Its Fire and Brimestone hard driven the champ Sokyola laying down the gauntlet. out wide
Brother Moon trying hard, Zerrafos just behind them

On the home turn Justice says go Sokyola gets a neck in front of Fire And Brimestone under pressure, they get away from Brother Moon, Zerrafos hooks out 4 wide

Its the champ going to the front, Fire and Brimestone is gone and herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre
comes Zerrafos late.

Sokyola 10 metres clear, listen to the crowd, the champ is well in front,Zerrafos battling
on out wide gets to second, but is Sokkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkyola the champ
wins what a horse wins by 12 metres , second Zerrafos a gap to Fire And Brimestone, next
was Brother Moon from Smashing Sampras who made up ground in a photo with Baron Land
on the fence,Iontheball never in it from Sky King followed by Sunrise Music Man.

1 SOKYOLA $1-20.. $1-00
2 ZERRAFOS..........$1-30
3 FIRE+ B/STONE... $1-90
4 BARON LAND
