Postby bayman » Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:03 pm

i forgot to tell you i went into the auditorium last sunday morning to back glenelg at the points, but as i got in there i asked has your sanfl prices changed from the internet overnight & i got told we're not betting on all the games today only the glenelg game, with which i said thats what i want they told me odds & points etc & i claimed my bet, i then asked why aren't you betting on the other games & got told we have laid big bets on both games & we think they know the ins & outs so we've stopped betting on it & i said well i know mahoney is out for glenelg but it hasn't stopped me from betting & said seeyah

surely you bet on the lot or not at all
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Why can't they choose on which games to bet on and when? That is common sense by them to stop betting if they believe the punters have an significant advantage in terms of the ins and outs etc...

There are no rules saying they MUST bet on all games at all times.

Yeah I could just imagine that sort of philosophy if the bookies decided to bet on every race but the Melbourne Cup on that Tuesday in November.

Either bet on all games or not at all, he either has the expertise to know what's happening for all games or none at all, nothing in between.

Piss weak IMHO.

surely if there is a weight of money for one side you shorten them into prohibitive odds therefore giving good odds for the other side and might encourage money for the other side to balance their books???...would have thought this would be how decent bookies operate???

Only problem with this theory is those who backed the team at the best price before them being shortented into 'prohibitive odds' then back the other team and the bookmaker loses regardless. If decent bookies operated like this those with lots of money would always win something by backing the outsider into favorite then backing the other team.

I dont see a great issue with them not choosing to not bet on it rather than providing a market with 125 % if they feel the punters have an advantage. which would have the same effect.

Although Not totally surprised as one Night at the audi, I went to Have a bet on Moonee Valley trots. Asked if they were betting on them and they said Yes. Ok then, I'll have a $100 on Horse X, Reply was - "NO, we're Not taking Bets on that Horse" I said "Well which Horse can i Bet on?" They said "well you ask which one and we will tell you". WHAT A EFFING JOKE. Walked away confused and have hardly had a Bet with them since.
ROBBER and ECKY, Bookies are there to take BETS, thats their Profession, They Advertise their Product and Punters make an Effort to Go to the Audi to Support them only to be told, 'No, we've Stopped Betting on that Game Because we've taken some Big bets and are a Bit suspicious'
NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Treat punters Like SHIT and Pay the Consequences.

Further More, Despite the Audi on Friday Nights getting Betting Fluctuations from Harold Park and Gloucester Park, the 2 bookies there Dont Bet on them. i.e. DON'T Provide a Service. I Went to Harold Park and Penrith trots last year and Despite Getting NO Price Service from Interstate Meetings, They Still Had a Bookie there Betting on these Meetings, Making up Their OWN Odds and can tell you that they were very competitive with the tote as well whilst Providing a FIXED Price. i.e. They DID PROVIDE A SERVICE. =D> =D> =D> =D>

BUT they also wouldnt lose as much if they honestly believe one team is a good thing to win....you dont see the big bookies taking their markets down

Thornton Sportsbet?? They do that every Race, Whats New?? Wanted to back a horse at Harold park with them the other week at the opening call $3.50. when i asked if they would take a bet on it, Nancy said Yes, but we are only giving $2.50    Needless to say my $$$$s went on S/TAB and it came 2nd.
Question - Why are Bookies there when they are NOT Serious about Providing a Service???????????????

agree with JJ and dutchy.... provide a service and at least give us broadcast fluc odds..... fair dinkum how can they compete with the TAB when they are putting up gross unders? and then they winge at thier turnover at the end of the night....
Football is that unpredictable at times..... there is no way I would stop taking money on a game when the odds are in your favour..... just try to balance the books as best as possible.... and if you do lose on the game ...STIFF SHIT!!!! move on to the next one....thats what punting is all about....
BL are $1-00-2  thats not even $1-01
