PAUL WHEELER APOLOGY THREAD

I am an outspoken critic of dogs racing 3 times a week.
Some SA trainers race Wheeler owned dogs 3 times a week consistently.
I have made reference to the Wheelers instructing the local trainers how
to race the greyhounds the Wheelers send over from interstate.

I have been assured that the Wheelers in fact do not instruct the SA
trainers on how to race the dogs[by a trainer]
That being the case and Im reasonably confident the informer is genuine.

As for dogs running 3 times a week some can and some cant at peak performance.
But then again that is purely my opinion.

so why is it that certain trainers that train for Wheeler, race his dogs 3 times a week consistently.

I cant think of the dogs name Utah Bale or something that in its racing career which started in Vic and finished up here, averaged a run every 4.66 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THATS GREAT TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!WELL DONE TO THE TRAINERS!!!!!!!!!

BUT THEN you get other dogs, that are owned by different people, but are trained by the same people that train Wheelers dogs and they race once a week!!

Why Did Paul Wheeler refuse to sponsor a race in SA?????

Why not help the industry that helps make you $$$$$$$$$

A. Paul Wheeler is not a business. He is an owner..that's all, just a plain old greyhound owner....he breeds and farms out his dogs like a business...so why should he be made to sponsor a race?
B. It is getting harder and harder to get a start in SA, therefore, the only way to make sure the dog gets a start is to nominate it for every meeting on the programme, then hope to God it gets a start and runs a place, then continue to nominate it. That is why the sh*t dogs that end up here from the factory have to run at every meeting to keep them on the track. From what I've heard, Wheeler don't give the trainers Jack, so to feed his dogs and pay for the time put into them, they've got to win prizemoney, and to do that they need to be in a race, and to do that they have to have form, and to get that they need to be in a race to get form.....therefore, they have to be nominated in as many races as possible to get a start - to run a place - to get some form - to get another start - to pay their way.
C. The better Wheeler dogs don't need to run 3 times a week...because they have some ability, therefore they are more likely to earn some money - to pay their way.

In Victoria, there are sometimes 3 race meetings a day. There is no need to run the guts out of the dogs there because just about every track have heats of something every day. In SA, there are no heats...just straight out graded races.
Don't blame the trainers for having to do it, don't blame Wheeler for it.
It all boils down to the sh*t programmed races in SA, combined with the sh*t attitude of Wheeler for churning out so many lesser quality dogs, combined with the sh*t prizemoney in SA.

Personally.....I reckon there are some good dogs hidden among the scum...just need to offload the crap and concentrate on the potentially good ones. And........I reckon Matcott and family will get some good ones going...same as Lisa Rasso has been doing since the Rasso kennels cut back on the crap. And....I don't reckon it's up to anyone to tell the trainers how to make a $$$$, and how often they should be running their dogs.

And....I don't really give a flying fart about Wheeler and all the crap anyway.

Great post from a different angle
they are nominated extensively to obtain and or guarentee starts
catch 22 shituation
the GRSA admin need to intervene perhaps to right Aa wrongish situation.
