WHO THRILLED JR ?
------------------

Hail a new generation of Greyhound trainer Jeff Ryles
Jeff has a property at Freeling [Of Mcleods Daughters ilk]
I know this impressional man in his mid thirties, I played cricket with his Dad
in the mid seventies, played cricket with his older brother and then played cricket with Jeff, so I have a long and very good association with the family
Jeff a flamboyand left hand batsman, got my respect in the nineties
We were both playing cricket for the WDCC which were broke and about to fold
Jeff volounteered to take over the club and with me as his assistant reserected the club.
The club ended up surviving for a few more years, but with Jeff gone , the next time there was no saviour.

JR is about to get some hounds on the track
His mentors are Con Haagmans and Bonko Stamenkovic, both astute and brilliant trainers
The Freeling set up has 4 kennels and he has 3 dogs floating around
JR wants to expand to about 12 kennels in the future
JR has a website on his kennel[with permission I will list the site next time I catch up with him]

JR also sponsored a heat and final at Gawler dogs to be run this week

Lets support JR because the industry needs effervesant identities like himself

And who thrilled JR ???

Hi Mal thanks for the kind words and when you think about my family have known you forever and a day hey!
First of all a couple of slight corrections
1. Its Geoff Ryles spealt with a G.
2. I was a right hand batsman
3. And the other name is Bosko not BONKO LOL
Must be age that is given you the memory lapse HEY!
pity about W.D.C.C i put my heart and soul into fixing that club as it had extremely bad debt when i took over as manager of the club. If my memory is right we wiped off nearly $70,000 of that debt within a very short time frame (matter of months actually) i thought i left it in good stead to survive along time if managed correctly.
Oh well these things happen and we all move on!

The old man was the left handed bowler not you

BUT Bonko[Bosco] was an error by admisssion

As for the WDCC
Geez remember the council, pub, bank reconcialiations we had to manouvre ?
I was really proud how you saved the club
Now youand KJ can save the dog industry

Geez remember the council, pub, bank reconcialiations we had to manouvre
DO I remember the Council? They wanted to close the club down!
Do I remember the bank! They wanted to close us down!
Do I remember the pubs? They closed every single account we had!
I must admit though, all those difficult hard and some times intimidating meetings we had with the bank and council have certainly taught me how to deal with people and to be a little stubborn when i know what im doing is for the betterment of whatever goal im trying to achieve at the time.

Hey Mal,

The #7 is GOMAN who has been with Con Haagmans now for a month or so. Was a very strong finisher at the Gold Coast and won or was in a couple of G5 finals before coming over here.

His times at Gawler in trials have been competitive enough to win races so we have no reason to doubt him over the longer distance but Monday Night will be the big test.

CHEERS MIGHTY_TIGER!
Keep your eyes and ears open as us newbies in the industry are trying to make some changes happen for the betterment of everyone involved.
Our first mission is to put a submission into GRSA to see if its possible to open up the Gawler track on a Monday morning for stewards trials. At present there are not many options for us trainers up north to trial our dogs at Gawler. We have Wednesday nights at present or Friday mornings BUT Fridays are no good if you want to finish your dog into the catching pen. We should have more opportunities to trial our dogs on the track in which they are going to race. And considering us trainers pay per trial its not like we are looking for a handout here. I have also spoken to some concerned owners about this very problem and they also agree that we should have more opportunities to trial our dogs at Gawler.

Seriously as a trainer YES definitely.
Its hard enough to get a dog TRUELLY 500m fit as it is. we have angle park and gawler with the 300m boxes which is a great distance to start at when your just getting your dogs back into work or have a pup just starting out. The next step we need is to have 400m boxes so the dogs can slowly build up fitness before we think of putting them over the 500m. Handslips are fine but you really need to have your dogs coming out of the boxes and learning that vital skill. To many trainers take their dogs from the 300m boxes then a couple of handslips then straight into the 500m runs. Greyhounds are just like human athletes you need to slowly work on their fitness levels and ONLY race them when you know they are 100% ready. This in my opinion would stop a lot of the soft tissue injuries they get. They are essentially an athlete and not machines.
So yes i would love the 400m boxes to go in at Angle Park and Gawler. Then alot of the 400m specialist dogs would venture over to little old ADELAIDE from interstate and race here. Remember we are the ones who bred the speedy squibs by putting speed to speed and then wonder why the majority of greyhounds can fly over the 400m but cant run a strong 500m.
So instead of these dogs having no viable racing future in SA lets give them a chance and put in the 400m boxes.
