A league soccer

Thought i would start this up to add some interest to this year's A league.

Round 1

Last nights result between Central Coast and Sydney came as a surprise, but the A league can be unpredictable. New coaches, overseas imports and ex socceroo stars could mean it will take the first few rounds of the season to sort the men from the boys. It might be better to keep the money in the wallet until teams learn how to play together and to see what impact the ageing stars have on the league.

Tonight i like the draw (maybe 0-0) or 1-0 win to Adelaide over QLD. Both teams lack fire power up front. It looks like Agostino will start on the bench and the two young Adelaide forwards, Burns and Djite have just come back from overseas and could be a bit flat. I think Adelaide would be happy to get the draw first up on the road and it could be hard to get past a defence led by Socceroo Craig Moore. QLD have injury concerns of their own, so the draw might suit them as well. Adelaide should play a counter attacking style of game, so they could catch QLD on the break. If they get a 1-0 lead you can expect them to hold onto it in a well drilled defence led by Valkanis. The draw is paying about $3.20. Draw (0-0) is $8 and Adelaide to win 1-0 is paying about $7.50.

Melbourne Victory Vs Wellington is an unknown, but a shock win to Wellington would not surprise. Melbourne have Thompson and Allsopp who can score easily, but Wellington have a point to prove this year and have recruited well in the off season. Melbourne also have their off field woes with team harmony which doesnt help when travelling to NZ. NO BET.

Perth Vs Newcastle. Perth look like an international side on paper and might be too strong at home. PERTH WIN. If you are looking for better odds than just the win, maybe take Perth 1-0 or 2-0.

Good luck!

Good review Dutchman I'll b following your reviews during the season.
The weather will b playing a part in tonights result with the ball sliding everywhere if the turf is heavy. I think the game will b decided in the middle of the park. Even though Burns has just flown in he played only the last 15 minutes the other day whereas Djite played the whole game in 40 degree temp. Burns is the X factor, his speed could cause havoc. GO THE REDS

Got lucky on my draw bet with Adelaide finishing 2-2 against QLD.
Good call from Warrior with Burns scoring early.
Think you're right Dutchy...lot of studying to be done in the first few rounds.
ps hope the name doesnt cause too much confusion...i'll try to come up with my own DOOM type of theory for you during the year...

Good to hear you in the money, Good to see also the young lads scoring but the Reds were lucky to get away with a draw but we take that away point everytime than getting nothing

Round 2

Most teams still relatively unknown, but here goes...

Central Coast Vs Wellington
Expecting a draw here, and not expecting a spectacle.

Sydney Vs Adelaide
Expecting Sydney to win. Adelaide are yet to win on the road to Sydney and Sydney might just click against some good opposition. 1-0 or 2-0 to Sydney. Only way i can see Adelaide snatching a goal is on the counter attack and i think Vidmar will be instructing his boys not to take any chances.

Melbourne Vs Perth
Also expecting Melbourne to start clicking. Thompson might be a good bet for first goal scorer. Should be a huge crowd in Melbourne for this one to see them get over the line against Perth.

Newcatle Vs Queensland
With Craig Moore suspended there could be some gaps in the backlines for QLD. Expecting the home crowd to cheer Newcastle home for a win here.

Good luck!

I think the best bet of the round is Newcastle to win. At $2.20 its a good bet.

ROUND 3

Still so hard to predict, but here goes...

QLD Vs Central Coast.
DRAW - on the basis of too hard!

ADELAIDE Vs MELBOURNE
Expecting an adelaide win here. Thompson is out for Melbourne and they have a few injury worries. Adelaide forwards seem to be in some form as well. Adelaide WIN. 1-0 or 2-0.

WELLINGTON Vs NEWCASTLE
Too hard to predict, but Wellington should play well enough to at least earn a draw here.

PERTH Vs SYDNEY
Just keep waiting for Sydney to show their class. Perth have not troubled the scorers and I am expecting Sydney to get an away win here.

good luck!

While I have been raving about Burns so far this season and not disappointing us, I have been waiting for this rematch for a while. Melbourne victory havent hit there straps yet and with Thompson out and a doubt over Muscat here is the perfect chance to inflict some pain. United have played some entertaining football thus far and now is the time for Viddie to bring back Spagnuolo. He is the ex factor this week if he gains a start. United 2-1

What odds on a Muscat Red card if he plays?

1) he will want to make a statement against adeliade's prodigy Nathan Burns
2) If's he's allowed to wear that plastic arm guard then he is def the type of player who wouldnt be afraid to use it. Expect to see him go for headers with that arm rasied....

Then again from what I've seen of Victory games alot of A-League refs do seem intimidated by him so he'll probably stay on the park regardless.

well i made a couple mistakes at the TAB a minute ago, but can still get everything after re-assessing what i had done.

put some $$ on the draw at half time in adel v melb

then i realised i backed the DRAW, backed United win, before realising it was for the draw at 1/2 time!

then i took multi's

Draw 1/2 time
england win
scotland win
geelong -24.5
=$6.26

then thinking i had made a mistake

UNited win
england win
scotland win
geelong -24.5
=$7.40

and i thought everything was going wrong because i backed MR 5 - 11 at $44 on the tote, had it considerably shorter in my market and it got to 3rd $6.80 a place a few bounds from home, after coming from last on the turn, only to get knocked off!!!!

It you picked a draw in every game you would probably be making a killing up until now! The competition and form lines should become a bit clearer in the next couple of weeks.

Sydney Vs Wellington
Sydney must get a win on the board here. 1-0 or 2-0 to Sydney.

Newcastle Vs Adelaide
Danger game for Adelaide. Valkanis out, Burns out. Draw might be a good result for United. Take the Newcastle win or draw.

Melbourne Vs Central Coast
How long can Central Coast keep this up? Hard to pick this game, but surely Melbourne need to start finding some form, and their strikers will need to start finding the back of the net. Central coast might be paying overs based on recent form, but once again a draw could be the likely result.

Perth Vs QLD
Perth must find the back of the net sooner or later, and their defence can obviously keep an opposition scoreless. QLD doesnt look to have many options up front, so take Perth in a win here. Maybe 1-0 will be enough.

Good luck!
