Neil Kerley, Lindsay Head, John Halbert, Geof Motley and Chicken Hayes would all be around 87 years of age.

There was a Rex Johns in the Deaths on Saturday morning, aged 92. Would have this been the Port player?

No. The former Port Full Forward passed away in 2009 at the age of 74
Ian Day is 86. There seems to be many ex league footballers still with us in their mid 80s but only a few in their 90s.
Neil Dansie, who of course is much better known as a cricketer but played footy for Norwood will be 93 in July this year.

Alf Roberts is the last remaining 1945 premiership player, b. 27/2/1926
Another player (but best remembered as Torrens coach) born in 1926; I haven't seen any reference to passing away is Dick Jones.
I've tried to find any reference to these players from 1945 not being alive, on ancestry.com, My Heritage, Genealogy SA etc. and haven't found any:
3 1 1917 Sydney James Hall Glenelg
19 1 1919 James Edward Nicholls Norwood
6 9 1922 Desmond Bennett West
7 11 1924 Thomas Clifford Ryan South
5 10 1926 Leon Charles Crowhurst Norwood
21 5 1926 Ronald Charles Desmond Hay West
20 8 1927 Mostyn Antree Peter Bannister Norwood
10 10 1927 Robert Louis Paxton Norwood
19 1 1927 Herbert Paul Vincent Renner North
25 6 1927 Ronald Keith Smith West
-I hope the given names are correct, please correct me if I'm wrong, or let me know if you can tell me if they are, in fact, deceased.
There are another 32 players who I don't have a birth or death date for:
Thomas Barnes Torrens
A Bertram Sturt
Keith Brown South
T C Charlesworth South
Raymond J Cock Glenelg
Arthur J Collins South
James Crouch Sturt
Alan Dolman Port
William Dunn Torrens
W J Edwards Torrens
Arthur W Franklin Port
Ronald F Hall Port
Douglas M Hamilton Torrens
Reginald James Harvey Port
B Hewitt Norwood
William McFarlane Port
Peter Moore Sturt
Michael J Murphy South
William Owens Glenelg
Raymond S Phillips Torrens
William J Pike Glenelg
Clive Plant Sturt
William J Powell South
Richard Proctor Port
Keith Shepley Glenelg
Colin George Smith West
James Talbot Port
Jake Turner Torrens
W S Walsh Glenelg
Harold F Warne Sturt
Colin A Wilson South
Stanley Thomas Young Port
I think B Hewitt is Bryan b. 13/1/1924 d. 30/9/1992, and T.C Charlesworth is actually Trevor Lloyd or even Lloyd Trevor Charlesworth, b. 24/9/1920 d. 19/5/2004. I'm confident on Hewitt, but 50/50 on Charlesworth.

His given names were Ronald Jack Turner, but he was always known as Jake. I went to his funeral which was held at Fulham Funerals, Holbrooks Road.
Also Darcy Cox was born 4-1-1925 so he may well be the "clubhouse leader".
I thought that Dick Jones had passed away, but I can't find any reference to his death. He was still alive in 2008. There was an article about him in a Police Journal. He was a former policeman.

So for Turner, it's 26/10/1921, looking at GenealogySA...which is what I didn't do for Jones (just a general web search) - he passed away 16/1/2013.
