Spelly;

With Port being out of the finals race once again, How many times have Port missed the finals and what years were they please.
If my memory serves me, Port played the first round of the finals in 2006, but got bungled out ??

Don't forget WRxb0y the year the SANFL changed the finals back to a final four but had to change back the next year because port finished fifth.

Since a finals system has been in operation, 13 times.

1900, 1922, 1923, 1933, 1948, 1949, 1969, 1983, 1985, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007.

Another prime example of how the AvFL have f$%ked up the SANFL

Why - Port Adelaide deserves it's time struggling for awhile although compared to many other clubs it is not really sturggling given the records of most teams at some stretch in their histories.

A couple of wooden spoons in the struggling years wouldn't go astray either. They have had a heap of success so stiff sh*t to them - they never gave a flying **** about anyone else when they were winning flags and playing finals every year!

I can't see how the AFL is to blame for the Port Adelaide Magpies failures?

I like your passion BPBRB.Everything you have written is spot on the mark. Let them finish down the bottom for a few years and feel what thats like.

Centrals proved how to win regardless of what the AFL does - no club can use that as an excuse.

I also struggle to see:

1 Why it's so terrible for the comp that Port are having a lean run - geez, their AFL build up in the 90s sure snagged them some SANFL premierships

2 Why 1 team having a lean run means the SANFL is stuffed up?

Spelly, would that make them the only club to have won more premierships (since the introduction of finals series) than years not competing in finals?

BPBRB, Hondo Mickyj,

My point wasn't whether PAM deserve to have a bad run, whether they desreve to get the spoon or 1 team having a lean run means the SANFL is stuffed up.

The points I was making was in reference to the apparent correlation between the number of times PAM has failed to reach the finals since Port Adelaide joined the AvFL
And how this seemed to be another effect on the SANFL by the AvFL, along with the draft system taking the best players, the effect on crowds etc.

Personally, during my time I always looked on Port as Norths big rivals and saw some great grudge matches between the two, and for that reason, I am very happy to see them missing the finals

I agree jtc - the AFL have f*&ked this up for us, because while the Maggies are having a bad run, all the so-called Port supporters are off following that other thing, so you feel bad rubbing it in to the few who remain loyal to the maggies, thus denying us a bit of payback gloating for all the years of pain they caused us.
