I recall a goal kicked by a Norwood player at the southern end of Adelaide Oval in a night match, 5-10 years ago... I forget which player, and who the opposition was. Kicking the ball (soccer kick?) goalwards from deep in the southwestern pocket. The ball hit the ground at the top of the goalsquare, took a leg break and bounced through the goal.

There was some footage of this floating around the 'net at the time... can anyone point us towards it, assuming it is still around?

Sounds a bit like David Brown's goal in the '88 GF...

I remember that one fondly MP, it was a defining moment in that grand final, as was Jim West missing from the edge of the goalsquare.

Browny's flukey goal definitely settled us early in that second quarter.

After being goal-less in the first term and Glenelg jumped out to a three-goal lead.

Never been more tense watching a game than the '88 decider.

Probably coz '84 was still fresh in my memory.

Ah well, win some, lose some...

Darren Harris goal after the siren to beat Port at Adelaide Oval in the 80's. I was standing behind the goal as it sailed through; great moment.

Paul Harradine long bomb for Woodville v Port at Football Park circa 1983. He was about one step forward of the centre circle and the ball landed in the goal square a few metres out before bouncing through.

They are my nominations. Along with Cica in 2002 against North, when he did a similar goal at the southern end of Woodville Oval to Craig Burton in the 1991 Grand Final, hooking the ball around the body on the boundary line.

Also, on the Eagles video from 1993, there are a couple of highlights from opposition players. One of them was a goal from Shane Tongerie at Football Park. It went something like that he kicked the ball, had it smothered, then followed it up by a drop punt from the boundary about 35 metres out.

Nick Salter kicked a goal at Elizabeth in 2008 from just inside the centre square - landed on the goal line and went through. Also, Luke Jarrad scored a goal at Thebarton in 2007 from about 80 metres out - it did roll through for the last 15 metres to be honest. ;)

Two jump to my mind

First one,1997 sturt vs port at adelaide oval. Out of the back line threadgold passes to oleary who kicks long to Judd handballs to Lennon and goals from the members side about 45 m out. Sturt went on to win the game and beat port for the first time since 88. Gary window was abc comments man that day and watching th replay he is yelling "goal of th day, goal of th day". Classic goal for mine.

2nd was Marty mattner in the 02 gf streaming down the wing gracefully bouncing away and doing the one two with coops with a burning steinberner gaining fast. Marty slotted it from 50 against a 5 goal breeze. Awesome.

Yup, that certainly was a memorable goal from Mattner.
I can understand why Sturt supporters love it so.

One of my favourites is Stewie Dews goal in the 3rd quarter of the 2000 GF,

Long bomb from 55 out after a great handball from one of the Gowans, puts the Dogs 20? points clear and well on our way to our first premiership.

Love the commentary to match Oh No Oh No Stewie Dew!

without a doubt the best goal i have seen was tony mcguinness' goal against sturt at the bay in 1985, merv keane was running towards the ball in the scoreboard pocket, freddy made him look like an old age pensioner and sped past him and then without breaking stride dobbed a miracle checky

there is footage of this goal on glenelgs 1985 highlights on our wiki, dunno how to dig it out and put it up here, my 2 teenage boys were gobsmacked when i showed them about 3 months ago

The most amazing part of that goal is that Freddy was chasing his own kick!
