I have always thought that West lost 22 games between 1897 and 1899 before beating North in early 1899.

Also from a North perspective, I always found it amazing that North lost 19 games in a row between 2000 and 2001 and incredibly didn't win the wooden spoon on either occasion. Glenelg did both years. I think that North and Glenelg in those 2 years were further off the pace than Central and West are at the moment. In Round 9 of 2000, North lost to Central by 137 points and not to be outdone, Glenelg lost to the Eagles by 137 points. Neither Central nor West have lost by anywhere near that amount this season.

There was one game forfeited in 1898; that is excluded in my records. However, if you included it, it still only adds up to 16, because there was an abandoned game at quarter time against Torrens in the 2nd last game West played in 1897. That (as it would now) was deemed a draw, so the losing streak starts the following week.

Thanks for that. You have me thinking that perhaps my West supporting friends said that they went 22 games or so without a win. I will be seeing them both at lunch on Friday, so I will ask them if that's what they meant.
