This might be a silly question
But why is the SANFL the SANFL and not the SAFL or SAFA etc etc?
There must be a historical reason at some point. What is a marketing ploy for a national competition at some point?

No, North Adelaide and the Crows weren't that powerful even though the Crows would like to think they are.

The WAFL were the WANFL for almost 50 years too. The body that used to control football in Australia was the NFL till the VFL/AFL took over.
Tasmania were similar and were the TANFL. Qld were the QANFL too.
