Well you can't say he didn't put in.

South Australian football is mourning the sudden death of Norwood great and respected administrator Glen Rosser, who died from a sudden heart attack aged 68.

Norwood great and respected SA football administrator Glen Rosser has died after a sudden heart attack at the age of 68.

A Redlegs hall of famer, life member, two-time premiership player (1975 and 1978), administrator and coach, Rosser was also the SANFL’s operations manager and community football general manager from 1999 to 2013.

He was still actively involved in Norwood’s past players group, was a regular golfer and was socialising with friends in good spirits on Friday night before his sudden passing early Sunday morning.

Rosser was from Port Elliot where he played senior footy and captained the Victor Harbor High School team before moving to Adelaide to stay at Norwood’s home-away-from-home for its country recruits at Carmel Court.

He made his league debut against West Adelaide in the penultimate round of the 1969 season - on the same day as Roger Woodcock - but his 1970 season lasted just two games before he dislocated his elbow and was sidelined for the rest of the year.

But he returned to establish himself in the Redlegs’ team, playing predominantly on the wing, and was among Norwood’s best when they broke a 25-year premiership drought in 1975.

Rosser played in a Willis Cup victory over Carlton in 1976 and the 1977 Ardath Cup win over East Perth before a second SANFL premiership in 1978 when the Redlegs beat Sturt by one point.

In a newspaper profile of Rosser during the 1976 season, he listed the 1975 flag as his biggest thrill and said his personal ambition was “to play in another premiership side and I think I’d like to coach one day. Not a league side, but I would like to try coaching.”

When injury ended Rosser’s football career in 1980 after 182 games and 146 goals, that’s what he did as he remained heavily involved at The Parade as coach of Norwood’s reserves which played in four grand finals for two premierships.

He was also an assistant coach of the league team and its technical and development officer in 1991 before taking over as Norwood’s general manager from 1993 to 1999.

From 1999 to 2006 he was the SANFL’s football operations manager and ran the community football league from 2007 to 2013 before being made an SANFL life member in 2015, and continued to sit on its tribunal panel this year.

“We are devastated by the news and our immediate thoughts are with his family,” Norwood chief executive James Fantasia said.

“Glen is very much part of our Norwood family and has had a significant contribution not only to the Norwood Football Club but to football in South Australia.

“Despite being retired in an official capacity he remained very active in the club and a regular at games.

“He was a great player, a great servant and he will be missed terribly.”

I was wondering where this topic was. I was a bit young to remember Rosser the player but I remember him as Balme's right hand man when we overcame our Port bogey and captured a couple of flags in the eighties. Of course, he did so much more. RIP Glen Rosser, a Red and Blue blooded champion.

regards,
