Apparently couple of the Mt Torrens B graders got a holiday

Never got the full story on what happened here FH. Noticed on mycricket the result was changed after Mt Torrens were docked 3 runs, before the result was then disputed by Mt Torrens. Mt Torrens were awarded 12 penalty runs during the match which is very odd. Sounded as though there were a few incidents. A few ex- Mt Torrens blokes play for RP.

One round remaining in the TVCA..

Paracombe 115- Have top spot sewed up heading into R18 bye. Have finished strongly after a 5-6 week lull.
Lenswood 100- Will play A Grade finals for the first time since the 90s. Last couple of weeks disappointing however
Rose Park 95- Had a long winning streak come to an end at Palmer. Lose at Cambrai this week and it’s probably season over
Cambrai 95- Scraped home at Eden Valley. Lose v Rose Park this week and it’s probably season over

Palmer 85- Had to beat Rose Park and did so. A win against Birdwood should see them finish 4th due to their NRR.
Gumeracha 85- Have dropped away since xmas. Mathematically can make finals but realistically wont.
Mt Torrens 70- Have also dropped away since xmas with a few disappointing performances.
Eden Valley 25- Pushed Cambrai at the weekend and have been a little more competitive lately
Birdwood 10- Perhaps should have beaten Lenswood but it ended in a tie. 3.5 years without a win.

5 teams still alive in the B grade comp. Hard to pick a winner there.

One round remaining in the A&EH.

A grade looking like the usual suspects, Nairne, Woodside, The Creek and Strath. Lobethal only just out of the 4 so are a chance to grab that spot I guess. Not sure who plays who.

A2 grade I understand has been a reasonably even season. Bremer/Cally sit top followed by Woodside, Maccy & Nairne. Interestingly last years GF opponents - Mt Barker & Echunga will both miss finals this season.

B grade - Finniss are run away leaders, makes you wonder why they can field their best XI in a 3rd grade comp? Strath, Lobey & Ashbourne round out the 4 all look safe.

C grade - Echunga on top here with Woodside, Bremer/Cally & a resurgent Hahndorf making up the 4. I notice Hahndorf have very much a father & son team going around, with some fair talent among both the Dads & the lads it seems.

D grade - Any of the top 5 could take this out, with only Mt Barker no chance of making it to the top.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

Creek were fortunate to get away with a wash out last week thus splitting the points with Nairne.
This has effectively guaranteed the Creeks 3rd spot and a home final 1st up.
If the match had been played out and Creeks lost as one would have probably expected then Lobethal despite losing to Woodside last week would only have had to beat Ashbourne this week to play Finals as Strath and Creek play each other this week. Lobey would have gone ahead of Strath on points if Strath lost and would have most likely snuck in ahead of the Creeks on NRR if the Creeks lost.
As it is now, as long as Lobethal beat Ashbourne (Would be a HUGE shock if they didn't) its all a matter of what Strath do against the Creek.
Strath win and they then play the Creeks the following week again in the 1st semi final at the Creek again.
If Strath lose to Creek then Lobethal will play the Creek the following week in the 1st semi.

As far as the Premiership goes, Nairne seems to have a mortgage on it again.
Woodside have lost Brad Collins for the season with a thumb injury i believe? Woodside have had the odd win over Nairne over the years in Minor rounds but have been found wanting in finals against them generally and its hard to see them turning it around over the next few weeks.
Creeks are the interesting side that are probably most capable of knocking Nairne off but unless they win both their finals they probably wont get a chance to play them. Creeks have done well to finish 3rd as they rarely come close to having their full squad available at any one time and that doesn't seem like changing coming Finals time as Warren and Wundersitz who are 2 of the Creeks top 3 run scorers both away overseas the 1st week of finals which will severely dent their chances of getting through to the GF
Strath and Lobethal are both worthy finalists if they make it and both are not without a chance of making it through to the GF but both have been consistently found wanting against Nairne
Premiership Market
Nairne $ 1.28
Woodside $ 7.00
Creeks $10.00
Strath $25.00
Lobethal $25.00

There would be a few punters who would take that $1.28 about Nairne Jackpot..... a bit like Winx, will win by the length of the straight.

No such thing as a certainty in cricket

I do remember England beating Australia once when they were 500/1 and bookies wernt even offering a price on Australia as they were meant to be that certain to win

Also Australia were $1.01 to beat Bangladesh in 2005 and went down

Aust were $1.01 after they made 4/434 off 50 overs against Sth Africa and went onto lose

Cricket is full of upsets , Nairne look raging favorites but its too dangerous to declare them over the line imo.

Going to try and do my own preview of the finals for the A&EH

A Grade - Nairne would have to be my unbackable favourites to take this out. A super side with quality in every department but as the previous poster said there is no such thing as a guarantee in Cricket but you would be hard pressed to find a reason not to tip Nairne to take this out again

A2 Grade - This is a grade where anyone in the top 4 can win which is exactly what you want in an ideal world as everyone has beaten everyone just about. Gut feel says Cally but with no confidence whatsoever, to tight to be certain

B Grade - Finniss are undefeated (Inc a draw) and i would expect them to continue this run of form to take out the B's Flag. Not sure why they were allowed to field their 1st Side in the 3rd comp as they look a class above

C Grade - Echunga and Woodside up the top of the ladder here with daylight between them and the rest. Expect these two to play in the Grand Final and Echunga to get the choccies

D Grade - A grade where it only takes 2/3 decent players to have a good day to get a result. Anyone can take this one out but gut says Nairne as they have been on top all season all though have lost a couple recently.

TVCA Semis:

Paracombe 8/194 def Palmer 176
Lenswood Ranges 7/230 def Cambrai 229

So it'll be Paracombe v Lenswood at Birdwood next weekend. The Pirates won back-to-back flags in 2011/12 and 2012/13, while Lenswood last tasted A Grade success in 1996/97.

Was a great finish at Lenswood yesterday. In my many years of playing I can only recall us chasing down 200+ on a very small number of occasions. So to do it in a final was pretty special. Need a lift with the ball this weekend though.

In a rematch of last year's B Grade final, Birdwood will play Cambrai at Palmer.

So 1st week of Finals are done with in A&EHCA

A Grade 2nd semi Final - Nairne surprisingly took all but one of their allocated overs to over haul Woodsides moderate score of 7/157 to scrape home with 8/160

1st Semi Final - Batting was always gonna be a question mark with the Creeks in the 1st week of Finals missing their 2nd and 3rd leading run scorers in Warren and Wundersitz and when Tonkin was dismissed 2nd ball for only 1 after averaging 90 odd for the season the Creeks were in trouble.
After being reasonably well placed at 4/105 23 overs, they suffered a stunning collapse to be dismissed for 116 in 36 overs. A very ordinary effort considering the perfect batting conditions on the Turf at the Creek on a Hot Autumn day.
Lobey were off to a good start to be 0/19 before suffering their own stunning collapse, losing 6/11 to slump to 6/30 after 17 overs and the game looked all over with the exception that Weeks was still there and with support from Martin slowly but surely dug their toes in to consolidate and eventually combined for a match winning 88 partnership for the 7th wicket to see them home with 21 balls to spare.
Another disappointing exit from the Finals for the Creeks who unfortunately never seem to be able to get the best team together when it counts for a variety of reasons.

Woodside have beaten Lobethal today in the Prelim Final so next week will see a repeat of last years Grand Final between Nairne and Woodside.

Nairne $1.25
Woodside $4.00

A2 Grade see Top Placed Bremer Callington scrape through over Macclesfield in the Semi Final to host Nairne next week.

B Grade Finniss remain undefeated after defeating Ashbourne in a high scoring affair at the Dry quick scoring Finniss Oval and will host Strathalbyn after they got over Lobethal in the other Semi Final.
One would have to favor Finniss here and then expect quite a bit of pressure put on them to return to A2 Grade next season

C Grade saw Top placed team Echunga go down to 4th ranked Bremer Callington who will meet Woodside after they eliminated Hahndorf.

D Grade apart from Mt Barker has been a lottery all year and that continued into the Finals with 2 quite incredible scorelines.
Echunga hosting Finniss on the turf at Strathalbyn looked to have blown their chances by imploding to be all out for only 65 but then incredibly bowled Finniss out for only 57 !!!!!!!!!! to progress through to and host the Grand Final which no doubt will be at Echunga.

The other D Grade final was just as amazing for the complete opposite reason. On the postage stamp Nairne No. 2 Oval, Top ranked Nairne piled on 4/274 from their 35 overs with veteran Bobby Hallett smashing 16 sixes in his 144* n.o. and seemingly a certainty to go through to the Grand Final especially after bowling L Creek out for only 46 the last time they played them. They looked to be on track when they had Creeks 4/114 with not much batting to come but a whirlwind finish by the Creeks saw them amazingly reel in the target with 4 overs to spare
GF - Echunga v Creeks
Result - anyones guess?
Previous seasons results
L Creek Forfeited to Echunga
Creeks beat Echunga who only had 9 batsmen
Echunga comfortably beat Creeks

Nice wrap Jackpot. News travelled about the D grade game at Strath. Finnis were 4/53 chasing 65 and got bowled for 57. James “The General” McArthur bowling the gentlest of slow mediums has ripped through them. Incredible!

Sets up the GF between my Miners and your Creekers.

Echunga C grade also choked!

Oh and congratulations on your award Jackpot, well deserved.

You were correct Jackpot, more odd scores on GF day.

Nairne as predicted won, but there must have been a few nervous blokes when they were 7 wickets down still needing 20 odd and only chasung105.

Not seen any A2 scores but heard a whisper that it may have been a wash out on the Cally turf?

Finniss in what looked like a reasonable game got up over Strath in the B’s.

Not seen anything on the C’s.

Echunga batting in the D grade GF appalling bowled out for70 odd, the Creek made them 1 down. Congrats to your boys Jackpot.

Echunga 79
Creek 1/80
Yep, some soft dismissals by the Echunga lads was their undoing

A Grade Nairne were 5/51 chasing 105 but as per usual they dug themselves out of a hole to win again.

A2 Bremer / Cally defended 93 by bowling out Nairne for 70

B Grade Finniss went through the season undefeated to defeat Strath 5/221 to 6/185
Not surprisingly these 2 teams were the 2 to drop down from A2s last year

C Grade Bremer / Cally brought up a Double defeating Woodside 8/173 to Woodsides 147

Thankfully the weather wasnt as bad as it may have been and all games were completed on Saturday and the RESERVE day on Sunday wasn't required to complete games as im not sure too many were even aware of the new By Law that allows this to happen.
Neither Captain or the umpires were aware of this in the D Grade

Interesting situation in the U/16s Final with Lobey beating Strath 9 wickets down but there appears to be a lot of doubt as to whether one of the Lobey lads was qualified to play?
Interestingly the same player was the centre of controversy over the same issue in regards to the Figg Cup Final won by A&EHCA earlier in the season.

TVCA
A Grade Paracombe 7/155 def Lenswood 65

We kept the Pirates in check for most of their innings, but the last half dozen overs proved costly as they lifted tempo with wickets in hand. We lost 6/6 in the space of 15 minutes and completely fell apart after reaching 1/27. Only once this season we'd made under 130..to only manage half of that in a GF was dreadful. So disappointing.

Birdwood won the B's by 87 runs over Cambrai. Interesting given their A's went winless again.

So with Callington winning A2 in AEHCA will they want to come up to the top grade?

Probably depends on what their agenda is?
Continue to play Finals with a chance of a flag or to take on the challenge of playing in a higher grade and improve knowing they will probably struggle to win games especially against the Top 5 current A Grade teams.
ALL clubs ultimate aim should be to have a team in the Top Grade,
The problem is that when clubs bite the bullet and nominate to come back up to A Grade, they need to be "All In" and be prepared to do it tough for a few years before success comes along unless you get some quality recruits and have a crack at 1st up success.

Meadows win their 9th straight HCA flag.

A few upsets in the lower grades, with Mylor toppling Bridgy in the Bs. Aldgate suffered their first loss for the season in the Cs, losing to Basket Range who finished the minor round with just a 5-8 record. Eastern Ranges won the Ds.

Farewell to the Tait Brothers

Jarrad and Shaun have spoken to the club and key senior players and have let us know the will not be playing for the NCC next season. Whilst we know that many players come and go and don’t inform the club as a whole, they felt it necessary to do so properly as this club has been such a big part of their lives for well over 20 years.

This decision was not taken lightly, but one they are comfortable with, knowing that the club is in an extremely strong position, with 6 of 7 possible teams playing finals last season, and with the A grade winning 9 of the last 10 grand finals.

It is with the clubs utmost support and gratitude for well over 20 years of support and dedication that Shaun and Jarrad will be moving to Hahndorf next season. This has huge benefits to the association bolstering the A grade competition and is somewhat a reward for Hahndorf’s jump back into the top grade.

In the discussions with myself the lads still hold a special bond with the club and it is something they will always cherish.

On behalf of the club and committee I would like to thank Shaun and Jarrad for everything they have done for the over the past 20 years and wish them all the best next season. You will always be welcome at Razorback park.

Richard Boscence
President NCC

That’d surely firm up Hahndorf as evens money for finals next year? One would assume they’d get a few more pickups on the back of that news?
